This is a new challenge for me. I found Linda Ledbetter through the Gingersnappers. There's quite a few gals over there who participated in Linda's Compendium of Curiosities challenges. When I found Linda's blog they were coming to the end of that, but I was lucky enough to see Monday that she's starting Grungy Monday. It's always fun to get in on the ground floor of something so I decided to jump in. Grungy Monday is about celebrating the techniques of Tim Holtz. I've been collecting some more Ranger products so I think I'll be able to follow along pretty close.
On this tag there a only about 4 things I had to improvise on: the backing paper on the heart with wings, the letters and spotty stamp, and the round tag at bottom with the heart brads. Everything else is Ranger. I followed the instructions pretty close also, I just had to move somethings around because my letters turned out bigger than I thought they would be. I'm not always the measuring girl (lots of eyeballing, guess they are a little blurred today) :-)

1 Challenge:
  • Studio L 3     Grungy Monday #01-12 Tags of Christmas-2008-Tag 10
Supplies: Tim Holtz tag, Grunge Paper, Stampin Up-Very Vanilla, Am. Crafts-Love, The Paper Studio, Tim Holtz-Tissue Tape, Tim Holtz Masks, Tim Holtz-Heart Wings die, The Paper Studio-Mini Heart Brads, Distress Re-Inker-aged mahogany, Perfect Pearl, Perfect Bronze, Distress Ink-Vintage Photo, Tea Dye, Tattered Rose, Graphic 45-trim, CTMH-black embossing powder, VersaMark, Stamps: La*di*dah-clear alpha, Scrappy Cat-Designer Flourishes, Stampin Up-Extreme Elements, Ranger glossy accents.

My how time flies when you're having fun--This is my last week as Visiting Artist at Gingersnap Creations and I have to say, "What a great creative community this is."
If you're visiting her for the first time or for some reason you haven't checked out Gingersnap Creations and their Yahoo Group, don't be shy-come on over and enter in the fun--you'll be welcomed with open arms.
Now, onto our last challenge for March:
You can pick any past challenge to give you a jump start on your creation. Since this month has been about The World of Work, I chose GC40-Numbers--and you don't want to forget to get some Zentangle on your project. Just for fun you know.
It seems like everyone I talk to who works in an office, they never fail to talk about keeping up their numbers. So, I think this card could have a couple of different uses--Birthday or encouragement--maybe some more. But, we'll leave it here for now.
I'm encouraging you to hop over to Gingersnap Creations and join in on the fun.....

Heart and Soul

Just Add Ink has the perfect challenge for me this evening. A nice quick card to wind down after a difficult day.
Just Add Stamps--use some card stock, ink, and some stamps. For me it was this one stamp. I had been wanting this stamp for a long time, but wouldn't spring for full price. A couple of months ago I found it in the sale bin at the Michael's close to me. Yay! This was the perfect opportunity to use it finally.
I used a corner heart punch, a couple of spray mists, make up sponges to soften the inking and Wah! Lah! a pretty card with no embellishments.
Supplies: White Card Blank 4 1/4" X 5 1/2" The Paper Company, Papers: ColorBok soft speckle, Stamp: Stamps Happen Inc.-The Magic of Music, Ink-Ranger Archival Ink-Jet Black, Stampin Up-Daffodil Delight, Melon Mambo, Riding Hood Red, Memories Mists-Strawberry Daiquiri, Mango Lemonade.

Holly Wreath

3 Challenges:
I'm jumping into Jingle Belles and Crafty Hazelnut's this week. 2 great challenges, if you haven't checked them out hop over and give them a go. You'll be glad you did come those hectic holidays.
Then there's the Bloggers Challenge at Lisa Somerville's place. I've admired Lisa's work and artistic creativity even before I had a blog. I think she's had this challenge going on for awhile, but this is the first time I've participated. As ever, she is one busy lady and come June the Bloggers Challenge will be getting it's own blog. I would bet you she's going to make it bigger and even better than it already is. She's got lots of followers, but I know if you come to play she wouldn't turn down a few more. :-)

Comfort & Joy

I took a little bit of time for myself this morning and whipped up this card for the Bah Humbug Challenge and I used the sketch from The Paper Players.
A quick update on my Mom--she's still in rehab and I'm going up every afternoon. She's still having trouble swallowing so they are doing a test on that today. Other than that we're in limbo, don't whether I will be able to bring her home or if she will have to go to a nursing and rehab facility. Just taking one day at a time and keeping on steppin'. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers, very much appreciated.

2 Challenges:

Art Coasters

I'm participating in my first art exchange at Gingersnap Creations. This was a perfect exchange for me to start with because the theme was to include hearts on your beer mat or coaster, since I collect hearts no shortage here.
Hope whoever gets these likes them and I'm very excited to see what I get in exchange.
I'm heading to the post office and then to rehab to be with my Mom. She had another small stroke over the weekend, but was back at rehab Sunday evening. She is participating and her mind is still pretty clear, but her physical stamina is in pretty short supply. Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts, the next 10 to 15 days will be very telling and then we'll have to make some more decisions.
If you want to know how any of these was done just email me and I'll get emails answered after I get home in the evenings.

Typewriter Note

Before I begin the fun post, I would like to give you wonderful ladies who sent me such encouraging comments a great big cyber hug.  My Mom is being sent to a rehab facility tomorrow after spending the afternoon and evening in the emergency room with all kinds of tests before they will check her into rehab. Rules, Rules, Rules, but she will start to improve much more quickly once they get her situated. Thank you so much for all your thoughts and prayers.
Now onto the fun stuff--My 3rd week as Visiting Artist at Gingersnap Creations. I have had so much fun stretching my creative wings. The Design Team here is phenomenal and all the participants in the challenges are just as creative.
This weeks challenge is GC 95: Typewriters, and don't forget to try out some doodling, I bet you can fit that in somewhere on your project.
One of the reasons I like to participate here at Gingersnap is you have plenty of time to mull over your projects and enter something fantastic. With all our busy lives these staggered challenges are great for me.
Well, you might want to know a little about my card--
I got the main image from Google images, there is lots of free clip art there. It started out as an 8 1/2 X 11 sheet-I cut out the 2 images I wanted with my Spellbinder die, sponged the edges with Sepia ink and did some stitching with copper thread. I created my little Just A note in Open Office, and cut the slit to tuck it into the typewriter.
The hand was just a straight sleeve, but I had an arrow stamp with the curve I wanted so I cut the point off the arrow and pieced it onto the hand, then did the zentangling.
Of course, you recognize the dyed, crumpled seam binding bow-kind of reminded me of old typewriter ribbon. Come on and join in the fun, get those creative juices flowing.

Supplies: Ivory Card Blank 5 1/2" X 6" Halcraft, Papers: Stampin Up-Always Artichoke, Very Vanilla, DCWV-The Old World Mat Stack, Stamps: Melissa Frances-Arrows, Rubber Stamp Tapestry-small heart, Ink: Ranger Archival Ink-Sepia, Stampin Up-Old Olive, re-inker, Mother Rubber Art Stamps-Moon shadow Mist-Buccaneer Bay blue, CTMH marker-Brown Bag, Spellbinders Nestabilities-Labels Four, Stampin Up-Build A Brad-1/2" circle punch, Fiskars decorative corner punch, Stampin Up-Very Vanilla Seam Binding, The robins Nest -dew drops, Sewing Machine, copper sewing thread, Stampin Up dimensionals, glue dot.

Sad News Today

Dear Loyal Followers and Blogland Friends,
Yesterday my Mom had a stroke that has left her with not much use of her left arm and leg. Fortunately, her cognizance and speech have not been effected. She will probably be transported to a rehab facility tomorrow. Until then I am having to do pretty much everything for her.
I have my Wednesday posts for Gingersnap Creations ready to go and I've got one Art Coaster left to make and get those in the mail before deadline, but unfortunately everything else will have to go on hold until I get her settled and see what can be done for her.
Will miss you gals at Bah! Humbug! , Jingle Belles, and Crafty Hazelnuts Christmas Challenge which I just got invited to play at.
Never fear though, I'll be back. We've got lots of strong women in this family and my Mom even though she's 86, she's a tough gal.

All prayers and thoughts appreciated,
Beverly G ♥

Open Door

No matter how I photoed this it always looked like the window was swinging toward the inside, but in real life, it opens to the out side. I put a little scrap of acetate in for the window glass and some polka dot wall paper in the entry way. The designer paper I stamped the door on looks kind of like weathered wood from around the coast
This sketch from Just Add Ink   JAI59-A Sketch Challenge
was just perfect to go with my door stamp, and I colored the flowers and pot with markers and water brush.
Hop over to Just Add Ink, they are a bunch of talented girls from Australia and play along at their challenge this week.

Botanical Birthday

Our Creative Corner    1-2-3-4 Challenge

This card is made in a similar style to Linda, The Funkie Junkie. I hope she doesn't mind me calling her my mentor. When I discovered her blog and started following her she just wowed me with all her wonderful projects and I admire how she always is very true to her style of creating. She encouraged me to get out my sewing machine, gave us all a wonderful tutorial on these seam binding bows, and said stretch those creative wings.
So, this is a stretch of those creative wings. Kristen has challenged us to use 1 Pre-Patterned Paper, 2 Layers, 3 Different Stamped Images, and 4 Embellishments. Now, you wouldn't think that would be so difficult, but once you get busy making your piece sometimes it's like going to a salad bar, by the time you've got your plate fixed, it's heaping :-)
My pattern paper is from a new set of papers from Stampin Up, very yummy. 2 Layers-I sewed the pattern paper to Rich Razzleberry card stock. 3 Different Stamped Images-I stamped the bird, eggs, and grass. 4 Embellishments-Seam Binding Bow, antique brad, crystal eye on the bird, and here's where it gets tricky and I'll probably get kicked out of this challenge--I did stamp the Happy Birthday sentiment, but I wanted to count that as an embellishment.
You don't have to pick me to win or be featured, I just love how this card turned out, so I just really wanted it to be seen.

Supplies: Ivory Card Blank 5 1/2" X 6" Halcraft, Papers: Stampin Up-Rich Razzleberry, Designer Series Paper Botanical Gazette, Very Vanilla, Stamps: Posh Impressions-grass, Stampin Up-Engraved Greetings, Nature Walk, Ink: Stampin Up-Early Expresso, Old Olive, Stampin Up-Very Vanilla Seam Binding, Antique Brad, Recollections Rhinestone Sticker, Nellie Snellen die-MFD013, Mother Rubber-Moon Shadow Mist-Smoky Sapphire, Memories Mists-Blueberry Shake, sewing machine, Stampin Up dimensionals.

Gingersnap Creations  GC94: Spicy Supply-Office Supplies

This is my 2nd week as Visiting Artist at Gingersnap Creations and I'm loving every minute of it. It is a great experience to be part of such a great group of artists.

This week the challenge is: Office Supplies
I broke out my plain stapler and paper clips-every office has those. We all need a good pair of glasses with all the computer work these days. I used a cute little spiral punch to create this paper that looks like it came out of a notebook, can't beat those corner rounder punches either. How about those cute chipboard scissors? I used the new Black Enamel Stickles on the handles, silver embossed the blades, and cut off the back of a tiny brad and attached with Scor-Tape.
I've used a simple color scheme--green, black, and very vanilla, and sneaked in a little bit of Zentangle because every body doodles in the office at some time or another.
Hope you come over to Gingersnap Creations for the challenge. The more the merrier. We'l love to see your offcie creations. The beauty of this challenge is you've got until April 9, 2011, so even if you are a procrastinator this will give you time for a good mull and still come over and enter some wonderful project or card.

Supplies: Ivory Card Blank 5 1/2" X 6" Halcraft, Papers: green background-CTMH, scrap out of Stampin Up-Newsprint Designer Series Paper, Very Vanilla, Stamps: Stampin Up-Words set unknown, Michael's-glasses, Ink: Ranger Archival Ink-Jet Black, Stampin Up-Old Olive, Versa Mark, scissors-Maya Road Sew Cute mini chipboard set, paper clips, staples, Color Bok-metal dots, Sharpie Black pen, Sharpie Poster Paint Pen-silver, CTMH silver embossing powder, Ranger-Black Enamel Accents, EK Success lg.corner rounder, Stampin Up-spiral punch, ticket punch, and dimensionals, Scor-Tape.

Sparkly Snowflakes

A quick edit--Hazel from Crafty Hazelnuts Christmas Challenge came over and invited me to join in her challenge since it was embossing also. So I've added her to my side bar. She has a new challenge every Saturday. If you're a challenge junkie like me you'll want to join in the fun over at her place also. You can click on the link below to get started, there is still time for this week.
Bah! Humbug! is challenging us to create cards or projects with embossing this week.
I decided to emboss this Candy Cane Christmas paper with the Textured Impressions Northern Flurry embossing folder and hit it with Whisper White ink. After I stamped the sentiment in red and added the red crystals I was going to put a sheer white bow, but the longer I looked at this the more I said, "Naw, go for simplicity." So here you have it. I could actually send this in to the Take Ten magazine because I don't think it even took me ten minutes to create. Pretty much a first for me.
1 Challenge:
Supplies: White Card Blank 5" X 6 1/2" Halcraft, Papers: Stampin Up-Specialty Designer Series Paper Candy Cane Christmas, Always Artichoke, Stamp: Stampin Up-Seasonal Sentiments, Ink: Stampin Up-Whisper White Craft Ink, Riding Hood Red, Sharpie Poster Paint Pen-White, Stampin Up-Textured Impressions Northern Flurry embossing folder, Michael Richard's crystal stickers-red.

    Home For The Holidays

The challenge at Jingle Belles this week is Home For The Holidays.
My Dad was in the Air Force so we lived and traveled across the US. in my young life. My Grandparents home is what we called home. My Grandmother loved the holidays, all holidays. If we could not make it to their house for Christmas this is the type of card she would send, and if we were able to make it home she always made sure we had a big time at Christmas. She and my Dad cooked together, we always went out to the country and cut a tree, that is until the year she discovered the infamous aluminum tree, which turned into a family joke. You know all families have those :-)  She and my Dad are in heaven now, but my goodness I have so many wonderful memories. Hope your Christmas memories are as good as mine.
    1 Challenge:
Supplies: Gold Card Blank 4" X 5 1/2" Halcraft, Papers: The Paper Studio Season's Greetings Paper Pack, Stampin Up-Very Vanilla, Marco's-gold card stock, Stamp: Stampin Up-Fireside Christmas, Ink: Ranger Archival Ink-Coffee, VersaMark, Stampin Up-Always Artichoke, Cherry Cobbler, Sharpie Poster Paint Pen-gold, Stampin Up clear embossing powder, Fiskars decorative scissors-stamp, ribbon-Michael's, glue dot.

    Mardi Gras Mask

Gingersnap Creations is celebrating Mardi Gras. Who doesn't love a party. That's why New Orleans is still such a fun destination, they love a good party. Music, Food, and Fun!
I've been wanting to make a Mardi Gras mask for quite some time, so what a good excuse. I got the mask pattern off of Google images, my friend who lived in New Orleans gave me the feathers, I gold Smooch Spritz sprayed the stick pin, the tassle was off of my new set of sheets, $ Store fibers twirled on a plastic stick out of I might need that sometime bin, gold cording out of the ribbon drawer, and how about that free hand stickles work.
For all those out there who celebrate Mardi Gras, have some fun for me, but before you go off to your parties come on over to Gingersnap Creations and show us some fun Mardi Gras creations.

    Extra! Extra!

Extra! Extra! Read All About It--Just like my card says. Today is my first week as Visiting Artist at Gingersnap Creations and I for sure know you can hear me clapping myself. A huge honor. One of these days I might even get up enough courage to apply for a Design Team. Well, enough about me--onto this weeks challenge:

GC93: Chestnut Theme Challenge: Get To Work

I chose to make this boy from the Rogue Redhead Designs Relish Reading stamp sheet a Paper Boy. A bit of poetic license here--I don't think Sharon will mind to much since it still has to do with reading.
I know my Mom and Mother-in Law do still love to read the paper. There's just something about the smell of ink on paper and crinkling between the fingers as you turn the pages.
You know the old joke-"What's Black and White and Red all over? Well, I took my colors from that and here's the result.
I used Cherry Cobbler and the Newsprint Designer Series Paper from Stampin Up for my middle panels. I have this wonderful Steampunk Sarah stamp set from Artful Inkables so I used the hot air balloon to over stamp the newsprint panel before cutting it into thirds. My hubby kindly scanned a sheet from our local paper for me to tear and ink for the background panel.  I sneaked in a bit of Zentangle doodling which goes with the month long theme also.
With all our technology there may come a time when people don't remember we had Paper Boys, such is progress I'm afraid.
Come on over to Gingersnap Creations this week and this month to join in on some fun challenges, get some excellent tutorials, and soak up some artylicious projects by some very talented people.

Supplies: Ivory Card Blank 5" X 6 1/2" Halcraft, Papers: Stampin Up-Cherry Cobbler, Newsprint Designer Series Paper, Very Vanilla, Stamp: Rogue Redhead Designs-Relish Reading, Sentiment computer generated, Artful Inkables-Steampunk Sarah, Inks: Ranger Archival Ink-Jet Black, Stampin Up-Cherry Cobbler, scanned sheet from local newspaper, Michael Richard's-red metal dots, Red Prismacolor Pencil, Stampin Up dimensionals.

    Hark The Herald Angels Sing

Bah! Humbug! is challenging us to use images of things that fly and what better flying things are there than angels. Those guardian ones are kind of special.
Yes, you do recognize the background paper. My Mind's Eye. I white embossed the angels on Bordering Blue, printed the music from Google images, tore and distressed the edges, slightly edged the background with a white Sharpie paint pen, and couldn't resist giving this a bow.
Come on over to Bah! Humbug! you'll have a great time with all the Humbuggers and you'll have your Christmas cards made to send out before you start in on all the other Christmas preparations.
Supplies: White 4" X 5 1/2" card blank Halcraft, Papers: My Mind's Eye Signature Christmas, Stampin Up-Bordering Blue, Whisper White, Stamps: See-D's-Magical Christmas#50317, Ink: VersaMark Ink, CTMH-Z2160 Twilight, Brilliance-Galaxy Gold, CTMH white embossing powder, Google images, ribbon-Hobby Lobby, Stampin Up dimensionals.

As you can see I've added this very neat badge from Gingersnap Creations to the top spot on my side bar. Not only can hear clapping, but everything else that goes with excitement.
This honor is like getting picked to be on a Design Team for me.
You'll have to come back tomorrow for the first creation I've come up with for my VA position. Gingersnap Creations will have a new theme for the month of March and new challenges to go with it. Be sure to not only come back here to see my creation and the details to go with it, but hop over to Gingersnap Creations to get all the challenge info and see some other fabulous creations and fun challenges to participate in.
