Thought Box

Tuesday Taggers     Alter It Week-Boxed Up!
It just so happened that a writer friend of mine asked me to come up with a thought box to help inspire her in the writing of her first book.
I haven't played at Tuesday Taggers for quite some time, so this was a match made in cyberspace.
We found these little acorn charms at Hobby Lobby and from those small items this idea was born.
The box itself is 8" X 10". The oak tree is a free Google image, the rest is a lot of Tim Holtz products and stamps, distress inks, tissue tape, and Claudine Hellmuth paints, SU stamps, and a Michael's hot air balloon stamp.
My friend collects fonts, so I used 3 different fonts to computer create the words, she taught me it was o.k. to tear the edges of paper, I haven't quite mastered tearing up old books yet, but I'll get there, and just to keep some of me in the project I added 2 tiny hearts.
She follows my blog so this won't be a surprise, but this one's for you Linda.

Packaging Rose

Gingersnap Creations     GC106:Spicy Supply Challenge-Packaging Materials
Card Patterns     Sketch 121

The Gingersnappers almost had me stumped on this one. I don't spend a lot of time shopping at the Mall and that's what this month's theme is about. But, let's see--shopping--packaging materials--well, that led me to thinking about my on line shopping, so off to the garage to look in saved empty boxes.
I dug out some brown packing paper, bubble wrap, the edge of a torn up box, some twine, voici (see here), a pretty card after all.
I didn't even count how many layers I cut out with the Tattered Florals die, just kind of fingered what felt right. I inked up the bubble wrap and stamped it on Naturals Vanilla card stock, ruffed up all the edges, even the 1" circles and put the whole thing together. Easy Peasy--almost a 10 min. card.

Wish Big

Stamping 411     SSC209-Sketch
Well, I thought I had finally accomplished an all Stampin Up card. But alas, I cut the circles with another brand of circle cutter. This Marina Mist paper with the Springtime Vintage Designer paper and Old Olive ink for the stamping makes a very pretty combination.
This was a good sketch for beginning card makers. You can never go wrong with pretty papers and good stamps.

Penguins Galore!

Bah! Humbug!     Challenge 25-Penguins
Jingle Belles     JB26-Tag Along-Card, Bag and a Tag
The Order of the Opus Gluei     Challenge #107-Let's Tag Along with the Jingle Belles
Crafty Hazelnuts Christmas Challenge     CHNC 26: Anything Goes
Splendiferous Creations     Bloggers Challenge-Thing With Wings

It's been awhile since I've put this many challenges together. For some reason some of the challenge blogs started limiting you to 3 challenge entries for a project. I tried to read the rules at all of these challenges and I don't think that's the case at any of them so here we go with:
Penguins Galore!-
All the challenge titles are pretty self-explanatory when you look at my projects.
I had gotten this package of penguin stickers quite some time ago, so I reached in the embellishment box for them and my Penguin Inkadinkado stamp set. This stack of K&Co Let It Snow paper is still a favorite of mine.
Smilin' Stef from Jingle Belles inspired me with her trio combo-bag, tag, and card, and Rosemary from Order of the Opus Gluei inspired me with her Side Step card.
I got to work with great instructions from Splitcoast Stampers, paper, stamps, stickers, and favorite tools to come up with this frosty fun Christmas trio.

Supplies: Papers: K&Co Let It Snow Paper Stack, CTMH, SU, Stamps: Inkadinkado-Penguin Pandemonium, Whimsy Stamps-Holiday Ticket Sentiments, Ink: Ranger Archival Ink-Jet Black, SU-Marina Mist, Marina Mist marker, yellow Spica glitter pen, The Paper Studio-glitter snowflake stickers , Me & My Big Ideas-penguin stickers, ribbon-Hobby Lobby.

Perk Up!

Quirky Crafts Challenge Blog     QC#13: 2011 Lyn's Recipe Theme Box
The Color Dare     CD#106-Real Peachy Pears-Real Red, Peach Parfait, Pear Pizzazz

I'm back with an edit--in doing the sketch at Crafty Mess I discovered I failed to click on an important link and did the wrong sketch. It's still going to be a fun place to play and I'll start in July maybe I'll be able to click on the correct links.
I just joined the Crafty Mess Community yesterday for the ATC Swap group they have and in looking around I found they also have a monthly sketch challenge, so, of course, I joined that group too.  I just so happens that the sketch was perfect for the pieces I picked from Lyn's Recipe Theme Box, coffee and cream, 3 backing papers, stamped image, embossing (I heat embossed the images in the main circle), 4 brads.
Lyn I know you said coffee and cream, but I had to add in the colored polka dots to get in my real red, peach parfait, and pear pizzazz, to add just that little bit of quirkiness.
A couple of ladies welcomed me and friended me not to long after I joined at Crafty Mess so I already think that's going to be a fun community to be a part of .
Check out all 3 of the places to play, you'll find you can have some fun.

Supplies: 5 1/2" square card blank, Papers: SU-Chocolate Chip, Naturals Vanilla, My Mind's Eye, DCWV,  Stamps: SU-Mourning Cup, Ink: SU-Early Expresso, Ranger distress ink-tea dye, VersaMark, SU clear embossing powder, SU-Riding Hood Red marker, The Paper Studio Spare Parts-tiny heart brads, Fiskars corner rounder punch and circle shape cutter template, ribbon-Offray, SU dimensionals.

Take A Word     TAW#34: Fantasy

This is next page in my Art Journal titled Wonderful Words.
I promise I am going to take some classes in art journaling after I get my Mom home from the nursing home.
This page could probably use some more work and if I mess it up any more than it already is I'll probably show you that too.
Some free Google images, some stamps, gold embossing on the leaves, there are some very faint silver fairies and fairy dust sprinkled around.
Fairies like to cause mischief and this page is full of that.

ATC King

ATC Challenge Blog     4th Challenge-Father's Day Themed
This is a new challenge blog for me. I've been interested in ATC's for awhile now and have just started pursuing their history and how to go about getting into some exchanges. It seems the ATC Challenge Blog is a new kid on the block also, so I figured this was a good place for me to start.
We know that all men like to be King's at home ;-)
I used Fired Brick distress ink on a glossy atc, spritzed it with some water, dabbed it a little, dried it again and sponged some more Fired Brick, stamped some Tim Holtz stamps, wrote the sentiment with a Black Sharpie marker and edged the whole thing with a black Sharpie Paint Pen. (Love those Sharpie's)

Grungy Birthday

Studio L3     GM12-Celebrating the Techniques and Products of Tim Holtz-April 2008
This is truly one of the times the photo is better than in person. I was like several of the other participants in this challenge this was not my first attempt. Since you probably know I'm not the do over girl this is probably a near first for me to stick with something that wasn't quite working out to my expectations. But, I persevered.
I was going for a masculine birthday card and since most guys love dirt this would probably qualify for a dirt cake. Mr. Tim's tag from April 2008 is wonderful as usual, but this is not one of his techniques that I was able to master. Tomorrow is another day and I will look forward to Monday to see what Linda comes up with for our next Grungy Monday Challenge.

Life's A Jungle

Tuesday Morning Sketches     TMS#99-Sketch
Order of the Opus Gluei     Challenge #106-It's a Jungle Out There
Shopping Our Stash     SOS#5-Tools of the Trade
The Three Muses     TME-Wimsical, Quirky, Humorous

I started with the idea from Order of the Opus Gluei for this card. This set of stamps in my stash came to mind and this pad of pattern paper. I looked around for a sketch and since I haven't played at Tuesday Morning Sketches for awhile I decided to see what Melissa was hosting this week.

I put the picture of the sketch here so you could see that where Theresa has boxes I put animals, so it's in the spirit of the sketch if not exactly.
I shopped my stash for long unused embossing folders and came up with the Tiny Mosaic for the aligator and the spider web embossing folder because we all know there are giant spiders lurking in the jungle.
As far as Whimsical, Quirky, and Humorous I'm not Lion ;-)

Supplies: 4 1/2" X 5 1/2" Soft Suede card blank, Papers: DCWV-Safari Chic Stack, SU-Soft Suede, Peach Parfait, River Rock, Old Olive,  tan unknown, Stamps: CTMH-D1285 Life's A Jungle, Autumn Leaves-Mindy's Zoo, Ink: SU-Cajun Craze Old Olive, Early Expresso, those colors in the markers also, Cuttlebug embossing folder-Tiny Mosaic, SU-Textured Impressions Spider Web, SU dimensionals.

Petal Wishes

Card Patterns     Sketch 120
Our Creative Corner     A Punchy Color Challenge

I think blogger is still having problems. For some reason it will only display on post at a time on my front page. You will have to click on Older Posts to see the rest of my posts for now, unless when I publish this post it corrects the problem. I also think they are hard to get in contact with when asking about problems, but since they are free I can't complain to much.
Onto the card above. The sketch is straight forward, I didn't veer. The challenge at Our Creative Corner takes a little bit of explanation. The girls over there really keep us creating out side our boxes.
We were to use 4 colors: Baja Breeze, Regal Rose, Soft Suede, Rich Razzleberry. Then, to add to the fun, we were to use at least 3 punches with one of them being a border punch. The border punch is Scallop Trim, a corner rounder, a 1/2" circle punch, Ex. Lg. Blossom Petals. I squeezed 4 on here. I used the Build a Blossom stamp set that goes with the punch, as you can see it builds quite a flower. There are some very clever artists out there who have taken this blossom punch and stamp set and created some other clever things. It's one of those times when you say, "I wish I'd thought of that!", but they have been very generous to share their creations with us on YouTube. Be careful, you can spend a lot of time there. ;-)
OOPS! Look at the time--off to finish the rest of the day. My Mom says she needs a Taco Bell fix, so we'll have dinner in her room and visit til she goes to bed. July 12th is the target date for her to come home from the nursing home. She has really made major improvements in the last month.  Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes you've sent my way during the last 3 months.
Some more great news today--I got featured as Special Guest over at Gingersnap Creations on the Wrap Up-Denim, Rust, and Dust post and--drum roll please----
I got Published again in the July 2011 issue of Vamp Stamp News. If you don't know about Vamp Stamp News I highly recommend that you take a minute and hop over to Nancy Waterman's site and check out her wonderful publication. She is sole owner and publisher. Vamp Stamp News is packed full of articles, tips, photos, and Nancy chooses a group of wonderful artists each month to show case their work. Oh dear, just a little patting the back, quieter than clapping and drum rolling. ;-)
Pick up a subscription while you are there and check out the challenges in the back and how to get published and we see you too in a future issue.

Celebrate Butterflies

Stamping 411     SSC208-Sketch
Drunken Stampers     DSC#72-Inspiration Picture from Pottery Barn
I started with the sketch from Stamping 411 and then when I saw this photo at Drunken Stampers Challenge I immediately thought of these papers and this stamp set.
I like the outdoorsy feel that the Square Lattice embossing fold gives to the backdrop for my stamped butterflies.
