Wishing All Well

I have no picture for you all today, but I wanted to get in a post on the last day of 2012.
Just a little catch up first--
I haven't been in my studio very much and almost none since my Mom fell on Nov 18th. Since we have been at the Doctors a lot. Fortunately nothing is broken, but she is still having pain even after an XRay, an MRI, and a giant steroid shot. I did have a lady coming one day a week to help Mom while I had a day out to play, but I have now had to hire her to come in 4 days a week to help me. Mom has had some adverse reactions to pain meds, which was a real trip and not a physcadelic one either. So my helper lady is my day time girl and I'm the night time gal. I have to give a big shout out here to all the people who work in nursing homes or take care of their ill and aging relatives. Trust me people that is a real gift. These past weeks have been very wearing, but I keep repeating a couple of little mantras: What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. And, Stiffen that backbone, look straight ahead, and keep steppin'.
I've got a few goals in mind for 2013 and I hope all you out there who make New Year Resolutions are able to keep them as the new year progresses.
I have gotten some Zentangles made over the last year and a couple of days ago I decided to mount them in a journal type book, I will decorate the cover later. Now they will all be in one place and not be floating in my studio.
2012 has been a very eclectic year for me. Lots of ups and a few downs, but it's the downs that make you appreciate the ups all the more.
I hope everyone has had a happy Holiday season and I want to wish you all the best and much Happiness in the New Year 2013 !!!

Wise Owl Canvas

This is a mixed media canvas that I have finished and will be sending off to my friend in New York state. Owls are reemerging as a popular trend again. But in all honesty who can resist a wise owl?
I've been watching a lot of Christy Tomlinson YouTube videos so I have to give her credit for inspiring me.
She has a unique style, her canvases are bright and cheery with a lot going on on them.
I've used papers, collage pauge, acrylic paints, spray mists, Faber Castell India Ink pens, stamps, and I know before I go any further I have to tell you that I miss spelled Ralph's last name and didn't realize it til I got the whole thing sealed. That's just going to have to one little quirk on the canvas that will make it one of a kind.
This owl stamp started life as 4 1/2" X 3" Stampendous stamp, but I blew it up 200%, colored it with Copic markers, cut around very close to the edges and collage pauged it onto the canvas. I traced the had 3 times onto black card stock, glued them all together to make the hat 3D, after all was sealed I added the bow tie and clock charm to finish the 3D effect.
I'm really liking fiddling around with mixed media canvases so you will be seeing some more in the near future. I found some Jolee's owl 3D owl stickers that I'm going to attach to 3 small canvases to go along with this owl just for fun. I also discovered this week how to make a pillow box look like and owl so my friend will be getting one of those in her package also.
So many cute and interesting things to make and just not enough hours in the day.

Be Thankful ATC

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge Blog     WW#58-Be Thankful

We've got some beautiful weather here in N. TX. getting ready for the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend.
I've got my turkey waiting in the freezer to be cooked up so for this Be Thankful challenge I just had to pull out this cute Stampin' Up turkey and this pretty designer paper. I colored the turkey with Prismacolor pencils and as you've noticed I'm into the little word boxes lately. Those I printed on the computer, popped the turkey and the words up with dimensionals, then I couldn't resist adding the jewels to the centers of the flowers. Every holiday needs a little bling, don't you think?

Garden Snail ATC

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge Blog     WW#57-Snail/Stripes
I guess I was in kind of a green mood when I created this because after I photographed it and was editing it I wondered why I didn't use blue stripes for a sky. She looks like she's having fun riding her snail in the garden on a pretty sunny day.
Thanks Wicked Wednesday for giving us lots of days to enter, I'm squeezing in this time.

My First Poem

I set this blog up to share my Paper Craft and Mixed Media projects, but I have written my first poem ever.
I have decided to share it here for there may be some others of you out there who are in the same situation that I'm in. We have now become care givers to our parents.
My Mom has been doing really good since she came home from the nursing home last July so I thought I could apply for a design team again and low and behold CS Designs accepted me. It was great while it lasted, but as usual when I think things are rolling along good up came a Doctor's appointment and my Mom has something wrong with her blood. Lots of trips to the Doc and lots of tests, which means lots more time given to care of my Mom.
So in a Doc's office these words came to me:
Care Givers Lament

Diapers, Wipes, and Blood Types
Doling out pills from morning til night
Dressing, undressing, changing the sheets
Cooking, cleaning, making ends meet
Grabbing a nap here and there
A Positive Attitude
Where Oh Where?

If I'm not commenting or making a lot of projects you'll know where I am.
It's taken me all weekend to make 2 inchies and one ATC which I will be posting later.
If you are a stay at home care giver like me be sure to take some time for yourself even if it's in bits and pieces like mine. Taking care of an aging ill person is even harder than raising kids.
My Mom deserves the best because that's what she always gave us and I happen to be fortunate to have a supportive husband who helps me to make her last years with us very comfortable. She'll be 88 the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Happy Creating and Happy Holidays To All--

Hats Off ATC

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge Blog     WW#55-Head Coverings

The Red Hat Societies were all the rage for awhile. I don't hear much about them anymore, but I couldn't resist creating this ATC with Red and Purple. The hats are from a Close To My Heart stamp set, the Swiss Dot embossing folder, Stampin' Up Concord Crush ink, my favorite red fiber, computer sentiment with the Curlz MT font, and a red marker to highlight the hats. Kind of makes you want to have a Tea Room lunch with the girls doesn't it? Chuckle, Chuckle--

Light Bulb Inchie

Every Inchie Monday 2012      Light

The prompt this week at Every Inchie Monday is Light. As soon as I saw the prompt I thought of these little light bulbs from the Tim Holtz idea-ology line. I used this yellow splotchy paper to evoke the feeling of spots before your eyes when you are hit with a flash of light.

Full Moon ATC

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge Blog     WW#55-Full Moon

I should have sat this cute cat upon a fence, but unfortunately I'm not the do over girl.  What you've got here is some masking, brayering, and stamping on a glossy white ATC. I already love cats so when I saw this stamp I just had to have it and this was the perfect challenge to use it with. Can't you just hear him singing Halloween tunes to the man in the moon.

Shrunken Head Shadow Box

Art With No Boundaries     October and Halloween Week 4
Recycle, Re-Purpose, & Re-Invent     October Halloween and No Bones About It Week 4

The month of October has sped by, we are now in Week 4 of both our challenges on our Sister sites.
We've had a great turn out of entrants so it will be very difficult to choose who to feature this time around.
I've used the Shrunken Head 3 Digi Stamp from Chris's new collection of Shrunken Heads, brought out just in time for Halloween.
A weathered shadow box seemed a great way to display this Shrunken Head trophy. A reminder to step lightly in life because it can be quite a jungle juggling daily life and since spiders are one of my things to avoid in life I know there are giant ones living in the jungle that should definitely be avoided.
I colored the digi with Copic markers, covered the back of the shadow box with a leafy pattern paper and cut the shield from a scrap of pattern paper from a safari paper pack. I used some distress embossing powder to give the box a very weathered look and hung the head from some baker's twine beside the bones and shield.
You've still got time to enter both challenges and be sure to go check out the rest of the team's creations from some scary, creepy Halloween projects.

Ocean Inchie

Every Inchie Monday     Ocean

I'm still using these alcohol ink backgrounds. They make for a very dramatic effect with black stamping.
Ever since I saw the prompt for the week I've been humming: Sailing, Sailing over the ocean blue.
That's probably not the song and I'm certainly no songstress, but you get the idea.
I'm going to actually remember to leave a link to this post on the comments. I left a comment last week, but forgot to leave a link. It's kind of like putting attachments in an email for me, I always forget to put the attachments, DUH---

Butterfly Window ATC

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge Blog     WW#54-Butterflies

Boy, last week got away from me. Happy Sunday and hope you all have a wonderful start to your week.
I found this stamp in a Dollar bin and have paired it with one of the alcohol ink backgrounds that I have played around with. I left a little of the background around the edges, I thought it needed a bit of something so of course I picked up the gold Sharpie paint pen that seems to have a permanent home on my work surface, edged it and mounted it on a white ATC that I also edge with the paint pen.
I was going for a dramatic effect and I think that is achieved.
You've got until Tuesday to enter the challenge so there is still time to make a 2 1/2" X 3 1/2" piece of art. There are always prizes at Wicked Wednesday so click over and get some inspiration from the Design Team and join in on the fun.

Woman Scorned Heart

Recycle, Re-Purpose & Re-Invent     October Halloween, No Bones About It Week 3

The Design Team has some more very inspiring and mesmerizing projects for Week 3 of our challenge.
We've had some great entries so far. It's always so much fun to see what people can scrounge up to, yes that's right, Recycle, Re-Purpose, & Re-Invent ;-)
This time around Chris has created a digi called Bride of Frankenstein. Some of you are to young to remember or may not be a fan of old black and white movies, but the actress Elsa Lancaster played the Bride and Boris Karloff played Frankenstein. Since I am both old enough and a big fan of black and white movies I remember the movie well. Still pretty scary.
That's what inspired my project. It turns out Frankie didn't like his Bride at all and you know what happens when a lady gets her feelings hurt. The fires begin. Hence, my computer generated sentiment which I overlaid with a piece of transparency that drew and colored the flames on and attached with screw brads.
To get the look of forged metal, I began with a paper-mache heart to which I attached some dry wall tape and some paper gears then taped metal tape all over and burnished the whole thing with a bone folder. I antiqued it with watered down black acrylic paint and let that dry.
I printed the digi and colored her face with Copic Markers, did a little highlighting of her hair with a white gel pen, and chalked the upper right background to tie in with the copper frame I attached to her and the flames.
I had a little container full of parts from an old timer so I glued them around and attached a heart charm in the middle because you know even though our Bride is flaming mad she still pines for Frankie in her heart.
Good Luck with your Halloween projects and we are looking forward to seeing more of your scary, creepy creations before the end of the month.

Raven and Friend Canvas

Art With No Boundaries       October and Halloween  Week 3

We're in Week 3 of our month long challenge here at Art With No Boundaries. It seems there are more than just our team that love Halloween. We've had some wonderful entries already, so we'd like to see more of you hop on our Halloween challenge. Tell all your friends.
The Team has brought you another group of projects to get that scary mojo boiling. Be sure to visit their blogs and give them an EEK!
For this week I've altered a 5" X 7" canvas and attached it to a felt web with some spiders and their silk, very sticky.
I'm still hooked on using napkins and this particular napkin fit into my plans just perfect. It happened to be the whole top of my scene. You know the drill: Peel your napkins down to just one layer and attach to your project with a medium of your choice. I used black gesso on the bottom and sides of the canvas, let all that dry (Drying between the layers is very important).
Chris at CS Designs will soon be releasing this cute digi Raven and the new sentiment. She actually has bone bows in her hair on the digi, but I covered those up with the real plastic bone and bow to keep my deminsion going. I thought Raven needed a midnight garden to stand in so I stamped with VersaMark and heat embossed with white embossing powder. I colored Raven with Copic Markers, printed the sentiment, tore around the edges and inked. I attached her skeleton pal and raised Raven up so she would be the stand out.
For just a little more spookiness I used some white pearl paint to smear around the edges. Again after all was dry I attached the frame to the felt spider web.
This will make a very cute wall hanging in the entry way welcoming guests to the spooky party.
We still have BlackDragon with us as Guest Designer, so be sure to check out her Bride of Frankenstein shadow box and her Spooky book.

1st Birthday ATC

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge Blog     WW--Happy 1st Birthday/Anniversary

We're wishing Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge Blog a very, very Happy Birthday and 1 Year Anniversary. Jenn the owner of the blog has put together a very talented team and has brought us some very fun challenges over this last year. I hope you will take the time to click over and see the plethora of wonderful ATCs the team has created. Ididn't take the time to count all the sponsors for this challenge, but there are a bunch so that's means lots of prizes for those of us who enter. I can't remember which challenge I came in on, but I have really enjoyed playing at Wicked Wednesday and getting to know this wonderful team.
I used some happy yellow stickles on the #1, stamped and cut out the st. It's so cool when you cut a piece of paper and then when you begin to lay out your elements to attach you see some neat opportunities. Just a little on here, but once I laid the #1 on the ATC I saw that the st would sit just right on the purple confetti that was on the background paper. So with this red ATC blank, the confetti pattern paper with blue paint pen border, the happy yellow #1 with the cute st, and the tiny stamped Happy Birthday I'm wishing all of you at Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge Blog a Happy Birthday and Anniversary and continued success in the coming years!  You provide us with a wonderful place to play.

Eternity Inchie

Every Inchie Monday 2012     Eternity Inchie

On this inchie I was going for the look of the eternity of the cosmos. This is an Inkadinkado stamp. I looked through my alcohol inked backgrounds for an ethereal looking piece then stamped with London Fog Momento ink, dried that then over stamped with a Brilliance 3 color ink pad (Peacock) just using the blue and teal pads, dried that. Went around the edges with a Silver Paint pen. Wish you could see the shine on this, almost holographic in person.
It is Eternity after all and that kind of hard to evoke on a 1" square, but I think it kind of gives the feeling of the swirling cosmos.

Belladonna Party Hat

Art With No Boundaries       October and Halloween-Week 2
Recycle, Re-Purpose, & Re-Invent     October Halloween and No Bones About It Week 2

Good Monday Evening Everyone!
We're into the second week of October and I'm bringing you a project today that fits both of these challenges. Before I get to the particulars of my project there's a bit of business to talk about first.
As of this week Art With No Boundaries is going to become a monthly challenge just like Recycle, Re-Purpose & Re-Invent. However, the Design Team will be posting weekly projects to keep all our wonderful entrants and visitors inspired, so you will need to keep checking back each week to stay up with all the wonderful art projects the team will have to offer.
Next, just a little reminder about word verification on your blogs. We ask that you turn this off so that our team can leave comments on the projects that you have put lots of love and time into to enter in our challenges. I have heard it said that some people do not realize that it is turned on and some people do not know how to turn it off. I believe that Chris has a tutorial in the guidelines tab at the top of  both blogs to help you with that task. We don't want to be mean because we're all in this to have fun, but there have been a couple of times lately that I've gone ahead and tried to leave a comment and even after typing the correct prompts in many times it will never accept what I type. So even though I tried to comment you may feel short changed and don't realize that I was even there. Everything we do in life has rules so if we all follow the guidelines we can all have fun. Thank You for your understanding.
Now back to the fun stuff. I found a paper-mache witch hat and gave it a good make over.
I used the Haunting Apparition 3 Belldonna digi image from CS Designs for my focal image. She is colored with Copic markers and mounted on a pattern paper rosette. The witch hat is painted with black acrylic paint and left to dry. I then used some Halloween napkins that were 3 ply. Tear the layers apart savings the top printed image for your project, this will be like tissue paper. Using Collage Pauge, paint the hat working in small sections and paint the back of the napkin as best you can then layer onto the hat. Sometimes the napkins may tear but that is o.k. just collage another similar piece into place. Once you have the whole hat covered with the napkins, smooth with your fingers making sure all the air bubbles are gone and then brush another coat of collage pauge over the top for the final sealing coat. Let this dry very throughly.
I then added the wired webby ribbon with some creepy fibers from my stash and you've got yourself a great one of a kind Halloween party center piece.
We still have Blackdragon on board with us as guest designer this month and she has wowed us again with a couple of creepy projects (meaning creepy in the nicest way) then we have Bonnie, Lori, and Paula who have also got some wonderful Halloween projects you won't want to miss. There are clickable links on the two blogs above to their blogs where you can get all the details.
We look forward to seeing lots more entrants before All Hallow's Eve.

Twisted Flower ATC

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge Blog     WW#52-Flowers With A Dark Twist

I chose this Big Eye Flower digi from Dilly Beans to capture this Flowers With A Dark Twist challenge.
This is the time of year for horror movies, and all things creepy, scary. I tend to have very vivid dreams, usually not scary, but I thought what a cool twisted dream this would be. Being chased by big flowers with eyes. Pretty creepy, huh?
You've still got plenty of time to join in on the Twisted fun at Wicked Wednesday so click over and see what the team has on tap for inspiration.

Sailboat Inchie

Every Inchie Monday      Inchie Boat

I am entering at Every Inchie Monday again. I hesitate to say things are settling down around here a little bit with the holidays coming on, but for some reason I have failed to keep up with the Every Inchie Monday challenge that I found earlier this year.
This week it's Boat. This is an Inkadinkado stamp. One of my favorite stamp companies, so I've got a lot of their inchie stamps.
If you're not familiar with this challenge click over and give it a try. An Inchie is just what is says 1 inch X 1 inch of goodness. You'd be surprised what you can get on an Inchie.

Frankenstein ATC

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge Blog     WW#51-Based on a Story Character

First I want to Thank Jenn and all the Team at Wicked Wednesday for all my Top 3 awards the last couple of challenges, I've been remiss in my thankfulness. When you've got a huge artistic ego like me and love to be clapped it's always most special when your peers clap you. Thanks Team!!!
Now I have to say I think I'm later than I've ever been entering the weekly challenge, but the Tortoise won the race not the Hare ;-)
I've chosen Mary Shelley's Frankenstein character. When she wrote this story the general public didn't want to believe that a woman had written such a scary story. Who knew women have a dark side also. I think sometimes we just hide it better ;-)
This Frankenstein digi is from Strange Skin and I have to tell you if you want some creepy good stuff click over and check them out.
I'm a huge fan of old black and white movies and Boris Karloff  was the best Frankenstein ever!!

Be Scary Birthday

Art With No Boundaries     October and Halloween

First day of October and Fall is in the air and you all know what that means. Yep, Halloween--
Our mandate this month at Art With No Boundaries is to create projects of all kinds with all things Halloween. You know, pumpkins, ghosts, ghoulies, black cats, spiders, and bats are just a few. Cards, 3D projects, scrapbook pages--that's why we're called Art With No Boundaries.
Come over and join in the fun.
I've got a few friends who have Halloween birthdays so I created a card this time around.
I've used CS Designs Small Spider Background on a black card for my beginning base. I used my postage stamp scissors and postage stamp punch to pull all the elements together and colored the Haunting Apparition Psychosis in and Andy Warhol effect. I printed, colored with Copic markers, and punched the tag, added some creepy fibers and for the finishing touch in the top right corner a spider sticker with a red heart jewel on her back.
I love Fall and Halloween. We didn't go Trick or Treating when I was a kid we went to costume parties or had carnivals at school. My sister and I always dressed as gypsies. My Mom had lots of cool gold and pearl necklaces and scarves for us to use.
The Team has another great diversity of projects for your inspiration so be sure to click over and check it all out.
I look forward to seeing what Halloween goodies you have for us this time around.

Something Wicked Shoe

Recycle, Re-Purpose, & Re-Invent      October Halloween and No Bones About It

Welcome to October and our new challenge at Recycle, Re-Purpose, & Re-Invent. We've got a Halloween Extravaganza for you this month. The Team has out done themselves as usual and we have a special treat for you this month we've got Lyn Brough aka Blackdragon.  I've been a follower and an admirer of Lyn's for a couple of years now. She's the perfect guest for this month because her specialty is Halloween and The Macabre. When you visit her blog be prepared to be for some creepy goodness.
There's just no bones about it our team has come up with some projects using CS Designs digis that will inspire you to get out all your Halloween goodies and make something to enter in this challenge.
Be sure to tell us what you have recycled, re-purposed, or re-invented in your blog post and leave us a link back to that post so we can come over and leave you a creepy good comment.
In August I was prowling some thrift stores with my friend and I came across this cool pair of high tops. Already splattered black with the neon shoe strings. I thought I could do something with those. Then when Chris came up with the No Bones About It challenge I immediately saw a dark, dreary graveyard scene with a wicked cloaked figure sitting in the shoe and the saying Something Wicked This Way Comes was the perfect saying to go with the shoe. Our figures body has shriveled to nothing but bones all she has left is her pretty face and she just can't stand for the rest of us to out shine her. I bet you can just hear those footsteps on a dark rainy night. Clomp, Clomp, Clomp!
Let's see if you can out creep our team this month and be sure to visit CS Designs for some great Halloween images.

Asian Domino Shadow Box

Art With No Boundaries     Anything Goes and Asian Inspired Part 2

I've created an Asian Shadow Box for the last week of September challenge at Art With No Boundaries. Chris has created the black and white bamboo background that you can make any color in your software. I happen to use Open Office to manipulate my digi stamps. She also let us play with traditional Geishas and Harajuku Girls dominos for this challenge.
I haven't ever played around with altering dominoes so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to jump right in with both feet on a technique that I didn't know anything about. After I did some YouTube research I thought I can do that. I have to tell you it's not hard, but there is a lot of drying time involved with this project. The only thing I'm not real happy with is the very last step on these dominoes. I applied Glossy Accents and to my old eyes I had popped all the bubbles because you have to be very careful about causing bubbles, but after drying over night I still found some bubbles and then it was too late to do anything about them. That part of the project is going to take some practice, but I have found that is what art or anything you attempt in life that you really want to excel at takes. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE !!
I used origami paper to create the little fans in the top corners and finished everything off with some great Asian embellies that I found on the clearance isle.
I hope you'll check out what the rest of team has created, they have really out done themselves this month with this Asian theme. I'd also like to see some more entrants, I do enjoy coming over and checking out your blogs with all your interesting art.
CS Designs is the place to go for some great art digis.

We all love it when the circus comes to town. The elephants, the clowns, and the acrobats. Of course, the popcorn and the peanuts.
Hop over and check out the Design Teams creations and you've still got a little bit of time to enter in on the fun.
I used part of a 12 X 12 piece of designer paper and stamped the elephant and ticket. I colored the elephant with markers and a blender pen and the ticket with a yellow marker. I popped up the elephant and the ticket with dimensionals for some dimension and bordered the whole thing with a red Sharpie Paint marker.

Hinata Sunflower Art Canvas

Art With No Boundaries     Anything Goes and Asian Inspired

Welcome to the second half of September challenges at Art With No Boundaries. The team has created some wonderful projects to inspire you this time around. I know a lot of you out there do Asian themed cards and projects. I personally don't do very many Asian projects. I don't really know why. My Dad was stationed in Japan when I was 2 years old and he brought back a lot of wonderful art from there. It hung on our homes walls most of my growing up years.
So with those memories and the Hinata/Sunflower digi image I chose to create this art canvas with red, gold, and black for a very dramatic piece, but some of my team mates have used cherry blossoms and a more spring like palette.
Whatever you choose to create for our challenge in the next 2 weeks we look forward to checking out your blogs and be sure to enter BR after your name if your project is Asian Inspired so that you will be eligible for the prize. You know there is always a prize and who doesn't like to win something.
I hope you click on the link above and check out the rest of the teams creations. My team mate Bonnie has started writing the descriptions for our projects and she has done a bang up job. She has a wonderful style all her own and it comes out in her writing skills as well.
I'm looking forward to seeing what the rest of you create. I'm sure I'll find some inspiration in the next 2 weeks. Don't forget if you need some great Asian digi images to create your project hop over to CS Designs and you'll find exactly what you need.

Connected 24-7 ATC

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge Blog     WW#49-Love To Learn/Geeks & Nerds

Here I am with my Saturday entry for Wicked Wednesday. I chose this Stamping bella stamp that an internet friend of mine from Germany traded with me last year for some of the Stamping bella's that I had. It's so cool that you can make friends from all over the world without having to pack and get on a plane, train, or in a car.
So, my ATC kind of goes along with that sentiment. Yes, I am addicted to my computer now and I must be connected 24-7 or I feel cut off from the world. My husband, sons, and a very good friend of mine have turned me into a Techno Geek. Not quite Frankensteins' monster, but almost ;-)
I used Copic markers, chalks, a label maker, a Tim Holtz stamp, and a couple of tiny flower brads.
There's still time to enter a little piece of ATC goodness, see you at Wicked Wednesday.

Sheriff Joe Art Doll

Art With No Boundaries     Anything Goes & Such A Doll Part 2

Today we're entering into our second week of Anything Goes & Such A Doll at Art With No Boundaries.
We've already gotten a lot of cool entries and we're looking forward to seeing even more before this challenge is over.
My team mates have out done themselves this time around with lots of cool Old West interpretations of The Sheriff Doll template at CS Designs. Chris is known for her innovative designs and she hasn't disappointed us with the new releases she has brought out during this first part of September.
Sheriff Joe here is ready to go out and gather his posse together to lasso some bad hombres. I used a few brads on the Sheriff. Every cowboy worth his salt has a huge belt buckle and I created this one from an oval jewelery piece and some pattern paper. His hat is cut from felt, and his chaps are created out of some leathery self adhesive paper I found. I cut the fringe on the sides with some shredder scissors. The rest is pattern paper.
These Art Doll templates are so much fun to work with and when you pop over to see what the rest of the team has created you will see some quite different uses we all came up with for our creations.
Come on over y'all for some fun as we finish up the first 2 weeks of September.

Mummy ATC

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge Blog     WW#48-Black, White, + One Color

There's been no clowning around here this week. We've had our youngest grandson with us so we've been back on the school run schedule. Boy has that brought back memories. His Daddy got married Friday afternoon. Daddy and new StepMom will be back Sunday evening. Taking care of an 87 year old and a 7 year old I feel like I need a trip to the masseuse maybe with a seaweed wrap :-)
Thank goodness for the Wicked Wednesday Challenge, at least I got to spend just a few minutes in my studio without interruption. 2 1/2 X 3 1/2 inches just takes a few minutes to create once you've got your idea.
Still time to enter in on the fun. The team had created a big variety of projects so I know you'll get lots of inspiration.

Snow Sprite

Art With No Boundaries     Anything Goes and Such A Doll

We're starting September off with a good challenge for all you artists out there who like to create a little outside your comfort zones.
Of course, you can still join in on the challenge with Anything Goes and we welcome all comers, hence our challenge name Art With No Boundaries. However, don't you just every once in a while like to explore something new to you or something you haven't created for a long time.
The Bonus Round for our challenge this time around is Such A Doll, be sure to create a doll with moving parts and not just images of paper dolls and if you enter the Bonus Round put BR after you name.
I for one have never made an Art Doll before the one you see above. I was totally exploring a new medium when I created this Snow Sprite.
Chris at CS Designs has some new kits and digi collections going up at the store this week. Art Dolls included.
You can be so creative with these art dolls. I'd really like for you to click over and see what the rest of the team has come up with. You'll be very inspired.
I used the Funky Art Doll, and to frame her head with an icy snowflake I used the Solar Flare pattern from the Spirelli kit which I cut out of white glitter paper and wrapped with silver filament thread then cut one from silver card stock to off set behind that one but didn't wrap.
I used white card stock for the body, face, arms, and legs. I colored the face with Copic markers. The body I dry embossed and hit the highlights with silver metallic rub on. I heat embossed the arms and legs with silver snowflakes then colored with Copic markers. I cut a pair of boots out of silver ridged card stock and carefully laced them with silver cord, edged them with Black Sharpie marker, attached them to the leg and added the white pom poms. I attached a piece of the ridged silver card stock and some silver cord for the sash and silver cord at the wrists. To finish assembling the doll I attached the arms and legs with snowflake brads and added tiny rhinestones to the brads and randomly on the body.
After making this doll I have some more ideas so this won't be the last Art Doll you see here on my blog.  That means even after the one you will see next week for the second half of our challenge.
I'm hoping to see lots of my followers enter in on this challenge in the bonus round because I know there are a lot of you who like to stretch you wings and can come up with some really interesting dolls for our viewing pleasure.
We're welcoming a Guest Designer this month: Wendy from Wendy P's Little Corner of the World  she's created an art doll and added her to an art journal.
Be sure to give Wendy and the rest of the team some great comments on their very clever projects.

Report Card

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge Blog      WW#47-Back To School

I'm a last minute entrant in the Wicked Wednesday Back To School challenge this week. Even though I don't have any kiddos in school we've had lots of general living going on at our house the last few weeks.
I've got a simple one layer ATC for you this week. An Invoke stamp and then I used blue and red markers to write on the ATC. Here's wishing all the students a great school year.

Cinema Reel

Recycle, Re-Purpose, Re-Invent     Anything Goes--September

The challenge for September at Recycle, Re-Purpose, Re-Invent is now up and running. You have all month to do just those 3 things with anything you might find laying around. Show us what your artistic minds and talent can make out of unused or unloved items. Be sure to tell us in your post what you've redone.
We are also welcoming a Guest Designer this month:  the very talented  Wendy. She's used some cool shells she picked up at the beach this summer. Pop over and check out her project.
This month I have chosen to Re-Invent a home decor item that was cute on it's own but just begged to be Re-Invented into something more striking.
I have used some of the designs from the Performing Arts Collection at CS Designs. I just used 3 designs from that group. You'll have to click on the link and do a little window shopping at Chris's site.
Even though my project is quite simple it reminds me of old movie days gone by. I'm a big fan of old movies so I can see this fitting into a home theater room for just a bit of nostalgia.
Be sure to click over and join in on the fun for the month of September and give my team mates some love on their blogs also. They have created some great projects.

Trick or Treat Owl ATC

It was a dark and stormy night when Owlbert got ready to fly out for some Tricks and Treats.
This is my second entry for the Wicked Wednesday Challenge this week. It's so nice to be able to create something quickly when general living is getting in the way of bigger projects.
With that said this is Monday, so onward and upward--

Owl's Fine Time ATC

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge Blog     WW#46-Whooo Loves Owls?

I'm jumping right in on this Owl challenge at Wicked Wednesday today with this cute owl stamp from GinaK Designs. It's one of the first stamps I bought when I started building my stamp collection. It's in a set with 6 sayings and another owl with a nest. However, I didn't want to use any of the sayings that came with it so I printed this one on the computer, added the lines, cut out and attached. I also used my new woodgrained embossing folder from Stampin' Up to emboss the Crumb Cake ATC and hit the highlights with Soft Suede ink. The Owl's are colored with Copic markers.
The team created lots of owl-fully cute ATCs for our inspiration this week so be sure to click on the link above and check out the challenge.

Blue Skies

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge Blog     WW#45-The Blues

Good Monday Afternoon--Hope everyone had a great weekend.
Ever since I saw what the challenge for Wicked Wednesday was this song started going through my head. It's one of my favorite songs, but I just couldn't get it to quit playing. I tried and tried to come up with something else blue, but I finally succumbed this morning and stamped this Hero Arts cloud stamp on textured white paper and mounted it on a dark blue ATC, printed the words on the computer, cut them out and attached.
It's truly the last minute on this challenge, but bright and early Wednesday morning Jenn will have a new challenge up and running for you to create a little piece of art for. The design team always has lots of inspiration and great projects and there are prizes too.

Birds & Flowers Collage Canvas

Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog     Get Crafty With Canvas

I thought I'd try a collage canvas for this challenge. I had at first decided to make some flowers using canvas paper and incorporating them on a card, but this fast developed into a larger project.
I've been watching some You Tube videos on mixed media collage canvas projects. Talk about eye candy.
I've got quite a few things going on on this canvas. I made the flowers first with a Stampin' Up die and sprayed them with some homemade glimmer mist. I die cut the flourishes out of grunge paper dry embossed them and sprayed with more homemade glimmer mist and inked to paper to bring up the embossing. The chipboard leaves I found in my stash and did them the same way I did the flourishes.  Set these aside and began on the canvas.
I discovered Collage Pauge designed by Traci Bautista. I've been an admirer of her work for several years. Being fairly new to collage I have used a couple of different products, but after using this Collage Pauge on this project, it's my favorite so far. I love the finish you get with this and ease of clean up.
I've also used some modeling paste with a stencil, I'm hooked, such cool texture. I also discovered the Faber Castell brush pens are india ink and they stay wet on the collage long enough to use your finger to smudge for shading and then dry permanent. Let's see what else--Claudine Hellmuth paints, homemade glimmer mists, some distress tarnished brass crackle paint that didn't crackle, but I like the effect anyway, metallic rub ons, designer paper, tissue paper, the edges are covered with tissue tape, and for the finishing touch I added the metal medallion that I got from The Funkie Junkie's etsy shop when she first opened it up. I need to order some stuff from her.
One of the most important things I learned is to either air dry or dry with heat tool between layers.
I had a lot of fun making this yesterday. If you want to get inky, messy, and use a lot of different mediums, do a collage project. You'll be hooked like me.
There's one more week to enter the challenge above hop over and see what the Design Team has created for our inspiration and then enter something of your own.

Loreley's Oyster

Art With No Boundaries     Anything Goes & Rhythm of the Sea Part 2

Our fearless leader Chris had some computer problems so we're a little late getting out of the gate for our second week of this challenge, but she's back up and running. It's amazing how we all really miss our internet access when it's down.
I've got a project for you today with the Loreley Stars & Fish Montage digi. I just couldn't resist this partial quote from Shakespeare. I created the little sign and stuck it in the sand then surrounded it with shells and a star fish. I nestled Loreley in the background and added the pearls. There was a time that a girl couldn't be without a one strand pearl necklace in her jewelry box.
I hope you click on the link above to view what the rest of my Design Team members have come up with. It's amazing what different projects can be made using the same digi.
We've had some wonderful entries already for this challenge, I look forward to seeing more entries before the challenge ends.
