Anniversary Gate Fold

Rogue Redhead Designs     Challenge 9-Gate Fold Cards

Good Tuesday Morning Everyone! Spring has sprung here in our neck of the woods. Everything is blooming like crazy.
Hence, the bright springy colors this morning. Peach Parfait and Rose Red. I used a K&Co. Valentine Pack of pattern paper from last year and it went perfect with these colors. A match made in Heaven. Ooh, that might be a pun, since this is an anniversary card and don't those two just look like they've spent some heavenly time together. ;-)
They are from the Just Sayin' stamp set as well as the stamped flower on the inside of the card. The sentiment is from the Bits & Pieces stamp set. Shar at Rogue Redhead Designs is building up quite a selection of stamps to choose from.
You've got until April 8th to enter in on Challenge 9, so be sure to hop over and enter for some fun and prizes.

Day 3 Creative Chemistry 101

Today is Day 3 of my class with Tim Holtz. A talented and amazing young man, nothing new to most of you.
We used alcohol inks, archival ink, and distress inks with glossy card stock, manilla tag, and an embossing folder.  The 2 on the outside edges are on glossy card stock and the tag in the middle is just a manilla tag.
I didn't have all of the stamps that he used in my arsenal, but I had the correct inks. Now if you're talking colors, that's another matter. Tim says he doesn't take time to think about his colors to much he knows the properties of the products and what they will do together and that's what this class is about for us novices with these products. You can try to duplicate the colors he uses, but he moves pretty fast and as he's creating he is very clear that we can and should use the colors we like. So, that being said today I went with some colors and stamps that I have, followed the technique and came out with some results that I love and will feel confident to be able to create some more really neat projects.
Gotta go rest up for Day 4.

Day 2 Creative Chemistry 101

Recently, in surfing the web and looking at other mixed media artists blogs I became aware of online art classes. These are a perfect fit for me. Self paced, after you sign up and pay the fee the classes are on the web for as long as we have web access and so far I don't see anything that looks or feels too much like a test. Tests and me don't always mix.
So, when I saw this class at Online Card Classes, Creative Chemistry 101 with Tim Holtz as the teacher, I just had to jump in.
Day 1 was an introduction and Day 2 Mr. Holtz covered 3 techniques for us to practice.
If you haven't ever used Distress Inks, man oh man, are they versatile. My first tag I got the water blotches to big, but as in all things, practice, practice. The second tag is came out very soft and watercolory which was the intention, and the third tag is great for backgrounds because each time you do it depending on what colors you use it comes out different.
As I progress along in the class I will be sharing my endeavors to master these chemistry lessons.

Birthday Sundaes      Challenge #48-Animal Birthday Card

First off, I have to give credit where credit is due. I got this sketch from {Freshly Made} Sketches that they had a challenge for on Feb 29th. When I saw that Birthday Sundaes wanted an animal birthday card this set of stamps and papers came to mind immediately and this sketch was perfect for showcasing this cocky rooster.
I used the technique of blending markers on the stamp, if you just huff you get a slightly bolder watercolor effect, but if you spritz lightly with water you get an even more blended watercolor effect. Since the pattern paper was so bold I wanted the rooster a little more bold.

Just an added update to my schedule for the next couple of weeks. I will probably be kind of hit and miss because I'm trying to take an on line art class and participate each day. When I get some things made from class I'll share more. But, on top of that my hubby has a little bit of a medical problem he's getting checked out Wed and he may have to have a short hospital stay and some TLC nursing. I told he and my Mom both that they had to stay well for this particular 2 wks, but circumstances have proved otherwise for him, fortunately my Mom is doing pretty well as long as she goes slow and steady.

I have been remiss in welcoming my new followers lately, but if you guys can hang in there when I hit 100 followers I plan to give away a little package of blog candy.
So, thank you all for following my art journey and for all the great comments you leave me. When I get everyone well, I'll be back to trying to be a good follower also.

Flying High ATC

Here is my creation for the Wicked Wednesday challenge.
For some reason I can't stay away from my alcohol inks lately and it's even more so now since I've added some lights and brights to my collection.
This happens to be Cloudy Blue(Lights) and Pearl mixative. Unfortunately, my photo skills and photo manipulation program skills are still a work in progress. In real time, this is much more blue, but for the effect I was going for I think this will pass.
This is one of my favorite Inkadinkado stamps, there is one that is butterflies also and I have used that one a lot too.
I created the words in Open Office and boxed them by hand and cut out, popped them up on dimensionals so they would float also.
This reminds me of days when I would actually lay in the grass and look up at the clouds seeing what shapes we could see. That was before I worried about bug bites. ;-)
Make a little 2 1/2" X 3 1/2" piece of artistic goodness and enter it over at Wicked Wednesday, you'll have some fun.

Fairy Sweet

Fat Pages & Cards With Attitude     Challenge # 9-Anything Goes/Love

Challenge #8 had a few more entrants this time around, thank you for entering. Be sure to tell all your friends who love to create fun little pages of goodness and cards also, to come over and join in on the fun.
Challenge #9 is up and running now. You're got 2 weeks to check out the Design Team inspiration projects and get your mojo working. You know we've got prizes---
I created my Fat Page with this Fairy digi from Fresh Brewed Designs. I could just see her skipping through the fields after a happy spring shower. I found this free image on Google for the background of exactly what I had imagined, colored the digi with Copic Markers and added a little sparkle to her wings with a clear star gel pen, cut her out, cut out the grass with a MFT die, and attached both to the Fat Page. I inked around the edges for a bit of dimension and couldn't resist adding a couple of die cut pale pink butterflies.
You know this little gal has got some attitude going on if she's peeking  from behind this mushroom. I bet she's playing chase with some other fairies.
Look forward to commenting on all your wonderful entries in the next 2 weeks.

Daisies & Butterflies

ATCs & Cards With Attitude     Challenge #9-Steampunk/Anything Goes

Wow, what a response to Challenge #8--Thank You to Everyone who participated. Great projects!!
I try to get around to everyone to comment, hope I didn't miss anyone.
I didn't jump on the Steampunk bandwagon this fortnight, I've gone with the Anything Goes because I couldn't pass up the chance to work with this pretty digi from Delicious Doodles.
I was going to pop up the butterflies, but after I got through coloring the image with Copic Markers it looked so fresh and crisp I decided to spritz a little bit of blue on for a hint of sky and add a black line border, then attached it to an olive green ATC blank.
I hope this gives you a little jump start on your mojo for Challenge #9 and we hope to see at least as many of you this fortnight or maybe a few more.

Green Pennant BD

Birthday Sundaes     Challenge #47-Use Green

A quick update, I rechecked the Clean & Simple blog and I didn't miss the deadline, so again, got too many things going on at the same time. The new sketch is very interesting, check it out.
I missed the entry link for Sketch 181, but that's o.k. There are no winners or losers at Clean & Simple Stamping, just good fun sharing. Sketch 182 is up and running, so if you need a good idea to get you jump started on a project this is a good site to check out.
I'm just getting under the wire at Birthday Sundaes this week, but that's o.k. too, better late than never and even though my family says I'm very competitive, these challenge sites are all about fun. However, I did win the first time I entered at Birthday Sundaes, oops, that would be bragging, or for me personal clapping ;-)
Whatever it is, the team at Birthday Sundaes are very welcoming and talented and I am glad I found them so that I can have some fun while I'm beefing up my birthday card stash.
Oh, yeah, I used Wild Wasabi embossing powder to give this clean and simple birthday a tactile punch. The baker's twine was white til I dragged it across a Lucky Limeade ink pad.

TuTu Cute

Try Stampin' On Tuesday     Challenge#57-Sketch
Art With No Boundaries     Challenge 4: Fashionista--Some sewing creations

I saw this cute new design from Chris at CS Designs and knew it would be the digi I used for Challenge 4 at Art With No Boundaries. There's also a little sneak peek for maybe a future release of the cute sentiment, it will go with a  lot of Chris's designs.
I have my sewing machine area piled up right now, so I had to get a little clever and pull out some glittery tulle, very thin cross stitch thread, and a sewing needle to create this over skirt for the ballerina costume. I cut the bottom edge with scallop scissors, but you can't really tell, tulle is very persnickety to work with. The pink glitter is Distress Stickles Worn Lipstick and the very tiny glitter dots are a pink Spica glitter pen. I love black, gray, white, and pink so this was my color choice which after I had attached the strips of designer paper I ran the whole front of the card through an embossing folder to create the embedded embossed look and hit the high points with Metallic Rub-On Sparkle White.
Of course, when I picked the digi and the colors I had to have a great sketch to put it all together, so I picked the one at Try Stampin' On Tuesday. I turned it horizontal and used the Spellbinders Labels 14 dies for the focal areas.
Hope you add a little glitter to your lives every once in awhile, just for some fun.

Relish Reading

Rogue Redhead Designs     Challenge #9-Gate Fold Cards

Good Tuesday Morning--grab a cuppa and get ready to create and enter the new challenge at Rogue Redhead Designs. There are lots of gate fold cards out there, but today I've created a Joy Fold card for you.
Here are the measurements I used:
Base: 8 1/2" X 4 1/4" scored at 3"--that creates the left half of the gate.
Piece that creates the right half of gate: 8" X 3"--I scored at 3 1/2" to accommodate the longer stamp, but you can score at 4" for a fatter gate.
Tip: Be sure to place the closure holder on the front of the card so it catches plenty of the bottom corner to hold it shut, also, use Scor-Tape or Red Line Tape to attach the left side of the closure to the front of the card so the flap will not pop it off.
The next step is choosing the pretty papers and stamps to create a striking creation to wow your recipient.
I used portions of  the Relish Reading, Just Sayin', and Beach Babes stamp sets. The gold ink is Brilliance Galaxy Gold, the papers and other ink are Well Worn designer papers and Early Expresso from Stampin' Up.
We'd love to have you come over and enter the new challenge, you don't have to use Rogue Redhead stamps, but if you have them that would be great. Who knows if you enter, you might win some of the great stamps and you'd be set up for the next challenge.
Come out of you plain A2 card folds and try a card fold you might not have tried before.

Rainbow ATC

Wicked Wednesday Weekly ATC Challenge     WW#22-Over The Rainbow

Saturday got away from me, so this is going to have to be a short post so I can get this ATC entered at Wicked Wednesday.
I heat embossed the rainbow and words, colored with Copis and the clear star gel pen, and a few squiggles to frame everything in. I wouldn't want the cloud and rainbow to blow off.

Hearts and Flowers

Tuesday Morning Sketches     TMS# 136-Sketch

For some reason I have a had time meeting the deadline on the challenges at Tuesday Morning. The sketch this week if from Marie and a good for interpreting many different ways.
I had this punch and this new designer series paper and stamp set from Stampin' Up out on my table already. I haven't used this punch enough since I got it and it seemed a good fit for this sketch.
Check out Tuesday Morning Sketches if you haven't already. Melissa has some good sponsors and offers great prizes.

Signs of Spring

Quirky Crafts Chalenge Blog     Challenge 5- The First Signs of Spring-Double Z Card

I took the title of this post from part of the challenge going on at Quirky Crafts and the quirk to this challenge is the Double Z card. They gave a link to Splitcoast Stampers on their blog and we all know they have wonderful tutorials. There's only a couple of days left to enter this challenge, so if you're looking for something quirky, hop on over.
I happen to have used all Stampin' Up products on this card, but that doesn't mean you have to. Look through your stash for your spring stamps and papers and see what you can come up with.
I didn't decide I wanted texture on the front of my card until after I had cut and folded it, but I didn't let that deter me. I got out the Square Lattice embossing folder and who would have thought, the whole card fit inside perfectly. I've embossed plenty of things, but I never dreamed that I would get such a deep impression all the way through to the back. No pun intended, but I'm very impressed.

Steampunk Ariel

Forever Night Challenges     Freaky Friday Challenge #29-Photo Inspiration-Steampunk
Deconstructing Jen     Deconstructed Sketch #41

When I saw the photo inspiration at Forever Night I immediately thought of the Steampunk papers I had gotten from Paper Wishes and the steampunk stickers I had in my stash from Jolee's Boutique. Naturally, I had to find a sketch so this one at Deconstructing Jen popped up and a match was made.
I took a look at the sponsors digis, Simply Betty Stamps,  and picked up Dressing Up Ariel. I just love the skeletons on her glasses, tiara, and hat.
The ribbon came with the papers from Paper Wishes and I tried to match her hair to that to pick up on the gold.
Hope everyone is having a creative week.

HB Banner

Stampin' Royalty     SR#113-Dressing Down (No Embellishments)

This week at Stampin' Royalty couldn't have been much easier. No Embellishments. However, I still wanted to make a dramatic statement and I said I was pumping up my birthday card stash.
To make this bold, but simple card I used Poppy Parade card stock, Wild Wasabi embossing powder, VersaMark ink, and Patterned Party stamp set.
I think this might go in the box destined for cards to be published (maybe) to the Take Ten magazine. It sure didn't take ten minutes to make, but how fun to get such a great card with so little effort.

This is a nice plain card where the sentiment makes the statement. My 2 ribbons are flat and layered with sentiment raised up on dimensionals. Not Quite Navy, Real Red, and Whisper White.

Arty ATC

Wicked Wednesday Weekly ATC Challenges     WW#21-Celebrate Art!

I decided to celebrate this challenge by using the last piece of the background I made with alcohol inks and glossy card stock earlier this week.  Watermelon, Citrus, and Sail Boat Blue make quite a splash when they mingle. I stamped the squares with a stamp from the Just Sayin' Rogue Redhead Designs stamp set, the word art is a rub-on that I've had forever, and the cut up saying is a stamp from the Stampers Anonymous City Central set.
In the post where I used this background first I told you what a blow hard I am because that's how I got the splotches. I dripped a drop of ink and blew quickly and as hard as you can through a straw to get these splotches because I was too cheap to go buy a can of air.
This is one of my favorite art sayings.

Mirror, Mirror Inchie

Every Inchie Monday     Inchie Mirror

This week I'm determined to remember to leave a link to this post over at Every Inchie Monday. Hint, quit trying to do so many things at one time, slow down.
I found a package of these cute little mirrors at Michael's the other day. There are several shapes in the package, but this one fit the best on this inchie. I created the sentiment in Open Office, the ribbon and paper are from Stampin' Up.
It's amazing you have to be just as creative filling this 1" of space as you do a huge space. Have you tried inchies? Hop over to Every Inchie Monday and check out their list of prompts and see what you can come up with. You might surprise yourself ;-)

Soul Music

Fat Pages & Cards With Attitude     Challenge #8- Anything Goes

Here's another great challenge site for you to play at. It runs for 2 weeks and for Challenge #8 it's Anything Goes so you can let your creative mojo flow. We've opened it up to cards as well as Fat Pages, so there's no excuse not to come play along. There's even prizes.
My Fat Page this fortnight all digital, no stamping, only tearing and sponging the edges. I found this wonderful piece of music paper with the heart in the center. I printed one with the digi from Floppy Latte, our sponsor, in the center of the heart and on the other page I printed the words-Music for my Soul...
I tore and inked the edges of that piece and attached it to the Fat Page base. I then cut out the heart, inked the edges, and attached it with dimensionals to the Fat Page.
It makes a very romantic page, don't you think? When I first saw this digi my first thoughts were of Chopin and George Sand. She was madly in love with him and would lay under his piano while he played.
Hop over and check out the other DT members creations, we didn't all use the same images, and get some great inspiration for entering in Challenge #8.

Blue Birdie

ATCs & Cards With Attitude     Challenge #8-Anything Goes

Today starts the beginning of Challenge #8 at ATCs & Cards With Attitude, it's another easy one, Anything Goes. Put your best creative talents forward. You can win 5 digis from Robyn's Fetish, and you've got 2 weeks to create something great.
Robyn gave the design team some digis to play around with to give you guys and gals some inspiration. I chose this cute birdie. I decided to go with a fresh spring ATC. Where I live we haven't had much winter and we've got lots of things blooming here.
I printed the digi on a piece of retired Stampin' Up textured cloud paper. Printed it again on Whisper White so I could color the birdie with Copic markers and cut it out. I gave the edges a black graphic frame with a Micron pen, punched the flowers and dashed the edges with the same pen. I colored the birdhouse with PrismaColor pencils and blended with Sansodor. After I attached the flowers with the tiny yellow brads I dotted the centers with the Micron pen, then I gently lifted some of the petals for some more dimension.
Would love for you to come visit at ATCs & Cards With Attitude and enter, be sure to check out the other DT creations and get some inspiration, look forward to seeing your entries.
