F is for Friends ATC

For Wicked Wednesday's challenge this week I've chosen F is for Friends.
In this day and age of super technology some people choose to make their friends on the internet without ever seeing them. Sometimes that's a good thing and sometimes that's a bad thing, please be discerning in your choices with all this super technology. That's just an old grandma speaking.
Now, as far as these challenges and art blogs go it seems a good thing because I can meet like minded people and share art experiences that I wouldn't get a chance to otherwise. I have to say I have corresponded with some very nice and talented people from all over the world since I've had my blog.
I did some double shadow stamping on the bottom and some stamping and fussy cutting for the rest which I popped up with dimensionals and I added the burgundy border with a Sharpie marker.
You've got til Tuesday to enter in on the fun over at Wicked Wednesday so be sure to click on the link above and come play along.

Witch Way To Candy

Forever Night Challenges     Freaky Friday Challenge #41-Feeling Witchy

Forever Night Challenges is back up and running I think after some computer problems. I have to say I missed this challenge so was happy to find a new challenge posted Friday.
My card isn't freaky, but she's feeling witchy because she's green so that must mean she's already been into somebody's candy, but is still looking for more.
I used 3 stamp sets from Stampin' Up: Out on a Limb, Fang-tastic, A Fitting Occasion, Pick You Poison Designer Paper, Peach Parfait card stock, Modern Label punch, and I know you're just wondering what and how about that ribbon.
Well, I wanted some ribbon on this card, but not a bow. I got out my pom pom maker and proceeded to wrap the 1/8" organdy ribbon to make the pom pom. It didn't fluff up exactly like I wanted it to so I spritzed it with some water and hit it with the heat gun and to my amazement it started to crinkle up. I love it!
Now I do have to warn you, you have to be careful because it does get very hot very fast and you don't want to burn yourself.
If you're feeling a little witchy this weekend click on the link above and join in on the fun over at Forever Night.

Fun In The Sun ATC

Wicked Wednesday Weekly ATC Challenges     WW#37-Lazy Summer Days

Summer has come in with a bang in many areas of the US, in N. TX here it's in the low 90's, pretty cool for us. Last year at this time we had already had 4 or 5 days of 100 heat. School is out most everywhere and the pools are open and people are heading for the beach.
I decided to pull out some beach umbrella paper and stamped my sentiment on some vellum and attached it with brads then attached it to the bright yellow ATC blank. You know me I had to do some edging with Sharpie markers and I colored the yellow on the back of the vellum with a yellow Sharpie marker. Oh yeah, I colored the tiny white brads with a hot pink Sharpie marker also. I do love my Sharpie markers!
You've got time to click on the link above and have some fun creating a Lazy Days of Summer ATC.

Snow Globe

Always Playing with Paper     Merry Monday #25-Celebrate!!

This card is dedicated to all you in the Northeast US who are suffering with the heat. Down here in Texas we have the same temp, but not the humidity today so it still feels mild here. Stay hydrated and remember how you hate to shovel that snow ;-)
This card is a combination of old and new Stampin' Up products. I finally got to use the Mica Flakes for the snow in the globe, they shake up pretty cool.
If you're like me and general living gets in the way of creating, guess what,  you still have time to hop over and whip up a Christmas card for the Merry Monday challenge.

Best Things Shared

Mark's Finest Papers & Stamps     Speedy Fox & Friends Challenge 112-Vintage
Try Stampin' On Tuesday     Challenge #71-Sketch

I was striving for Vintage 50's here. This is one of my new stamps from Stampin' Up and it reminded me of the kids in the readers that I had in elementary school.
I was a little heavy handed on her lips, but maybe she got into Mom's makeup before she came out to play. You know how we girls are when we're trying to impress the boys ;-)
This time everything is Stampin' Up except the watercolor paper that I stamped the kids on, the wide burlap ribbon, and the chalks that I used for the sky and the ground. Sure hope I can find some more of that burlap ribbon, my roll is getting a little thin.

Okey Dokey-I got the burlap going on, some ribbon, but not quite in a bow, and I got a couple of buttons on here. When you've got pretty paper and great stamps it's not hard to create a card especially when you start with a great sketch.
All the products used here are Stampin' Up except for the wide burlap ribbon.

Make It Count

Less Is More     LIM-Week 72-Theme-Something Shiny
City Crafter Challenge Blog     CCCB Week 114-Time After Time-Clocks
Shopping Our Stash     SOS 56: Stuck on Stickers

Another card with lots of white space, but also another WOW card. (You all know how I like to clap myself).
I had a look through my mixed media goody stash and came up with this clock sticker from Jolee's Boutique, which caused me to go to the box with the Close To My Heart-Make It Count stamp which then led me to my embossing powder box and Stampin' Up's Pewter embossing powder.
3 Challenges covered very effectively and I haven't seen a store bought card that would rival this one lately.
Click on the links above and jump in for some fun. These clean and simple cards are way more challenging than you think. You actually have to think how not to use layers and a lot of stuff.

Black & White With Vellum

CAS-UAL FRIDAYS     CFC57-Clear As Day-Use Acetate or Vellum

When I started mulling over this card for Cas-ual Fridays challenge I wanted to do something different, but special keeping to the lots of white space requirements.
I decided to search my YouTube subscription videos. A favorite fun gal I follow is Stamp With Tami and this is her web site link. She is so clever and has so many cute tutorials. I CASEd this card from her, but you know when you CASE you change things up.
My changes are: White on White with black for my accent color, Swiss Dot embossing folder and a new Blissful Bird stamp, the rest I believe is pretty much the same.
I really liked Tami's card, but I'm also pleased with the crisp, elegant look I achieved with this card.
Thanks Tami and keep those great tutorials coming.

Tire Swing Birthday

Clean and Simple Stamping     FTL195-Natasha's Sketch

I just loved Natasha's sketch from Clean and Simple Stamping because of the tree she had on her sketch. It brought this retired Stampin' Up set immediately to my mind. The Happy Birthday is from another Stampin' Up set-Vintage Labels. You can never go wrong with shades of green with white and just a touch of Soft Suede (brown). The leaves are stamped with the new Gumball Green In Color.
These were the days when we had a big tree in our yard or some of our friends yard and we could swing the summer afternoons and evenings away.

CAS Butterflies

Stampin' Royalty     SRC#128-Clean and Simple!

This was the perfect challenge for me to jump back into playing at Stampin' Royalty. Clean and Simple!
How easy can that be with great products. I colored the butterfly stamp from the Kindness Matters stamp set with the new In Colors and Soft Suede markers from Stampin' Up misted the stamp lightly with water and stamped on the white card. I then stamped the flourish from the same set with River Rock ink and bingo, what a pretty and simple effect.
I jumping in at the very last minute, but don't forget to hop over and check out all the rest of the entrants to see their take on CAS.

I have long been a fan of Linda Coughlin-The Funkie Junkie. She is one very talented lady and she has surrounded herself with a very talented Design Team for this challenge blog she has recently started.
This is my first time to play. I just loved the challenge photo and I chose to make my project into a funkie travel card.
I've got heat embossing, dry embossing, distressing(inking and ripping), a die cut, some brads, and sewing. My papers are from Stampin' Up and the stamps are from Clear Art Stamps, TPC Studio, and Whimsy Stamps Raindrop Echo Designs.

I'm So Blue

Wicked Wednesday Weekly ATC Challenge     WW#36-Pantomime/Express Feelings Without Words

This week at Wicked Wednesday the challenge is to Express Yourself With No Words.
This is a digi from Dilly Beans colored with Copic markers and I added the tiny rhinestones to mimic tears because when you're so blue the tears seem to just rain down.
You've still got a couple of days to enter. I love making ATC's, they are quick and seem to help jump start my mojo when I'm a little blue ;-)

Heartfelt Thanks

City Crafter Challenge Blog     CCCB113-Buttons, Buttons... at least 5 buttons
Shopping Our Stash     SOS 55- Double The Ribbon

Today has been a day with lots of general living chores, so I have only managed to get this one card done.
As you can see I'm entering it in two challenges. On the ribbon challenge you could use more than one ribbon or cording, but I could only manage to get the cord and tiny striped ribbon to look good. I didn't want it to cover up my button heart.
Riding Hood Red and Whisper White paper cut out with my new Framelits-Hearts from Stampin' Up. I doubled the red card stock and put the largest scallop heart just above the fold to get the card base. The rest of the hearts in the set are just plain, but that works for me. I cut the base for the buttons, which I raided out of my very old button jar,  out of red card stock with the second from the smallest heart in the set then glued them on with Tombow glue. I painted a silver tiny brad with a White Sharpie Paint Pen and when it was dry I dotted it with a fine tip red Sharpie marker. The dots are a white gel pen around the edges.  I stamped and heat embossed the Thanks on red card stock with Whisper White ink and White embossing powder, tore around the edges and attached to the larger heart. Dots and dashes are a red fine tip Sharpie marker and the heartfelt stamp is from the same set as the Thanks (retired Stampin' Up).
So as you can see as you read this I have raided my stash for old and new supplies to put together this project.
My studio is so full I could probably craft for a year without having to buy anything new, but then the new trends would pass me by and I would think I was missing out on something. I keep telling my hubby I've got to stay currant and he just smiles and says you know you're just crazy for new stuff.

Purple Polka BD

Most of you are not old enough to remember a song from 1958 called The Purple People Eater, which was a space alien who came to earth and wanted to be in a rock 'n roll band. My card doesn't want to be in a rock 'n roll band, but it does want to be in Dilly Beans Purple challenge this week. You can't get much more purple than this.
Sorry no Dilly Beans digi this week, but these stamps just kept calling to me. I know that kind of sounds crazy, but maybe you fellow artists know what I'm talking about.

Merry Ornament

Always Playing With Paper     Merry Monday #24-{Frosty Greetings}

For all of us that still send Christmas cards, it's never too late to make them. Even simple cards like the one above can bring joy into someone's heart when they open it and know that you took the time to make it yourself.
Sorry about the lighting on this one. I tried several times to get it brighter, but failed. This Candy Cane Christmas Designer Series paper is very bright and cheery. I stamped the ornament with Lucky Limeade and popped up the little circle stamped with Riding Hood Red and put a pink mat on the inside to pull all the colors together. This would be a good 10 minute card and very good for multiples. This sketch lends itself to many different kinds of papers and shapes where I put the ornament. I kept my card simple, but click on the link above and check out what the design team did with this sketch, so many different styles.

A Little Flourish

Less Is More     Week 71-One Layer-Use A Flourish

I have enjoyed playing at Less Is More. One of the reasons is that it challenges me to use some of my stamps that I have not used in a long time or never inked up.
With this week's challenge being one layer and a flourish I was able to showcase this stamp from Stampin' Up. It had the flourish and sentiment all together. I inked it up with Distress Markers,Peeled Paint, Fired Brick, Worn Lipstick, and stamped. It seemed like it was floating to much so I cut the edge with one of the Adorning Accents Edgelit, then used the same Peeled Paint marker and edged the cut edge and that seemed to ground everything just right for me.
Even though this is a retired stamp set you can still stretch your imagination and go through your stash to use some of your stamps you may not have used in a long either.

Gear Up To Celebrate

Art With No Boundaries     Anything Goes/Heavy Metal
Card Patterns     CPS169-Sketch
Our Creative Corner     Your Favorite Tim Holtz Technique

When I started mulling over the challenge at Art With No Boundaries I pretty much knew what papers and stamps I wanted to use, but couldn't quite decide on the layout. Card Patterns was nice enough to provide me with just the right layout with their sketch for this week.
I think when you click on the picture you'll be able to see the Celebrate embossed in the center with copper embossing powder because in person it is very tactile and striking with the circle around it embossed with copper, gold, and pewter embossing powders. This is called painting with embossing powders, I first saw the idea at Stamping With Sandi . You stamp with VersaMark ink and shake the different colors of embossing powder where you want them shaking off after you sprinkle each color then heat emboss.
This is where my favorite, but very effective Tim Technique comes in for the challenge at Our Creative Corner this week--
I started with a Sahara Sand card blank, ran it through a Tim Holtz Texture Fade folder, sponged with Wild Honey, Rusty Hinge, and Black Soot distress inks to bring out the gears. The pattern paper from Paper Wishes was just right for cutting around for the next layer and I added the tiny brads at each corner. The pennant is made with sculpting mesh that can be cut with not your paper or ribbon scissors, but those other ones that you've already wrecked. I finished it off with the stack of gears held together with copper craft wire. The whole thing is held together with dimensionals and Scor-Tape.
Be sure to check out these two fun challenge blogs if you haven't already, it will be well worth the visit.

I've used all Stampin' Up products and one of my favorite color combos: Sahara Sand, Not Quite Navy, and Naturals White. I dyed the seam binding Sahara Sand.
I also gave you another inney today because I thought this one came out as pretty as the front.
Sometimes once you've got a sketch idea, the rest of the card just falls into place.

Jazz ATC

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge Blog     WW#35-Let The Music Move You

Oh Yes, I let the music move me right to my Mixed Media stamp drawer to pick out this cool set of stamps from Hampton Arts Graphics 45. I so wish my lighting had been better. I tried it a couple of times and still failed to get the true lime green to show up. This is an unknown scrap of paper from the bottom of my stash box, but I think it evokes the feeling of a great Jazz poster from the 1920's. I can't carry a tune, but I do love Jazz music.
I usually don't get my ATC's made until Sat. or Sun. for this challenge, but you all don't faint now, it's only Wednesday and you've got plenty of time to create a small piece of art and enter in the challenge when you click on the link above.

Dancin' Dreams

City Crafter Challenge Blog     CCCB#112-Coppelia (from the NY City Ballet)

Kirsty at City Crafter has challenged us to join her in creating something that inspired her from the ballet Coppelia, it's the story of in English-The Doll.
I couldn't resist going to my folder of CS Designs dancers and this is one of the sentiments that go along with them. Chris is one of my new favorite designers now. I love her graphic playful style. She's been designing since 1997 so when I say new, I mean new to me.
I included the inside here so that you could see how versatile digis are because you can size them to fit your needs.
Melon Mambo card stock, a cuttlebug folder inked direct to paper, I colored the girls with various colors of pink with Copic and Sharpie markers, and outlined the card and sentiment with black.
Makes me want to attend a ballet performance. How about you?

Smell The Coffee

Tuesday Morning Sketches     TMS#149-Sketch

This week at Tuesday Morning Sketches the Sponsor is Bugaboo Stamps and I happen to have some of their creations. Some I've bought, but most I have won at different challenges. They've got an eclectic mix, so if you haven't seen their company before click on the link and have a look around.
This week's sketch is actually vertical, but I have turned it horizontal to accommodate this cute little coffee cup garden. I have a sister and friends who start their day with coffee and if it would just taste like it smells I might drink some cups too.
I have come to really like to play around with digis for the simple fact that once you get the hang of it you can size them to fit all kinds of shapes. I printed the sentiment 1 3/4" X 3/4" and positioned a circle punch where I wanted it and punched, colored with a Copic Marker, dashed the lines and edged with a white Sharpie Paint pen. The cups were easy just decide what size rectangle you want, size, print, and cut out. They are also colored with Copic Markers.

Chickadee Xmas

Always Playing With Paper     Merry Monday #23

I took some inspiration from the Featured Designer for June, Vicki Burdick,  at Always Playing With Paper and used the Beautiful Season stamp set from Stampin' Up.
I've been a fan of Lesley for some time now and I'm also familiar with Vicki's work, so I decided to give this week's challenge a go.
My Beautiful Season stamp has been un-inked up to this point, but when I saw the sketch had the Curly Label punch in the upper right hand corner this set came to mind because of the stamp that goes with the punch. It just called for a gift card holder card.
The sentiment punched with the Decorative Label die is also in the set. I then thought about the papers I would use and the Designer Paper Deck the Halls came to mind and so I had to pull out the Cherry Cobbler Quilted Satin ribbon and get it on there somewhere. The piece with the ribbon and sentiment is a belly band that can be undone in the back with a twist cord or slid off.
I used PrismaColor pencils and Sansoder solvent to color the Chickadee image and the holly on the Curly Label, then sponged around the edges with Soft Suede ink.
Click on the link above and get a head start on your Christmas cards each Monday at this challenge.

Balloon Buttons

Mark's Finest Papers     Speedy Fox & Friends Challenge 110-Use Buttons

It's been a  long time since I played at Mark's Finest Papers, but I always keep them on my side bar. They have wonderful stamps and always have great challenges.
I've had some uninterrupted time in my studio today, the most in a long time. I'm needing to add to my birthday card stash so this challenge to use buttons made the perfect opportunity to make a simple but dimensional card.
It's hard to believe that I used 3 stamp sets on this card, but there you go sometimes it takes that many to get it just like you want it. Unfortunately, none of them are from Mark's, otherwise I would get 2 entries for the prize, but I won't be greedy and will be happy with the one entry and just happy that I gotten to spend the whole afternoon in my studio.

Less Is More     Week 70-Color Challenge-Red, White, and Blue

This weekend is the Queen of England's Diamond Jubilee. The ladies at Less Is More having chosen Red, White, and Blue to honor the Queen. In a way the Diamond Jubilee is a Happy Birthday. Elizabeth began her reign and that is like beginning a new life. She has reigned with dignity and perseverance in all types of adversity. She is one lady that is at the tops of my most admired persons list.
I will have to beg a little forgiveness about this card--I'm a straight line challenged person. As you can see even with the use of a Stamp-A-Ma-Jig, I still couldn't get it straight. Oh well, it will bring a bit of a chuckle to the person I send this to on their birthday and I'm off to enter it in the challenge even if it is a little off.

Hot Air Happiness

Quirky Crafts Challenge Blog     Challenge 12 2012-Up Up and Away (or the Sky's the Limit

Good Sunday afternoon everyone--we've got sunny weather here and big puffy clouds in the sky, just right for ballooning.
Cazzy and the team at Quirky Crafts asked me to be their guest for Challenge 12 and I couldn't turn it down. First because of the honor of being invited and second I love the Sponsor they've got this time around. The Cutting Cafe. Be sure to click on the link and check out all the great products they have. I especially like all the files they carry for shaped cards, but that's just the tip of the ice berg.
They generously provided the Design Team and me with some files so that we could create some wonderful projects to whet your creative appetites.
I chose to use the hot air balloons and this wonderful sentiment to go along with them. To me these just screamed for a gate fold card and the stars and stripes called for red, white, and blue.
I didn't want to leave the background just blank so I stamped a flourish with VersaMark ink. I embossed the polka dot paper with a star Cuttlebug folder and sanded them off to make them pop. I then colored the clouds and balloons with Copic Markers and finally used some gold Smooch in the cute little bottle that looks like nail polish. I had hesitated to buy any of that because I thought the applicator was like a brush, but it's a firm applicator with a very nice pointy tip just right for detailed applications.
That's pretty much it, once you get all the coloring and cutting done just assemble and you've got a really nice encouragement card.
This is a great challenge and one I like to play in because it runs for 12 days. With everyone's busy schedules you still have time to mull over your what you want to create and then come over and enter the fun and guess what there are prizes also.

Zombie Love

Yeah, I finally got a project made to enter in at Dilly Beans Challenge. This was a fun one, Stripes.
After I had chosen my colors and ribbon I decided to use my Pinking Hearts border punch to edge the main mat and go along with the hearts in the focal image.
Isn't she just the cutest Zombie looking for love you ever did see? I colored her with Copic Markers and made the stripes on the purple blue background with the Colorless blender. They really shouldn't have named it Colorless blender because it really doesn't blend it removes color. It took me a couple of YouTube videos on coloring with Copics to glam onto that, but you can create some pretty cool effects once you get the hang of it.
The challenge just started yesterday, so click on the link above and enter in. You don't have to use Dilly Bean digis, but she's one of my new favorite digi designers so I've got a few to play around with.
The paper and border punch are from Stampin' Up, the ribbon from Michael's.
