Cinema Reel

Recycle, Re-Purpose, Re-Invent     Anything Goes--September

The challenge for September at Recycle, Re-Purpose, Re-Invent is now up and running. You have all month to do just those 3 things with anything you might find laying around. Show us what your artistic minds and talent can make out of unused or unloved items. Be sure to tell us in your post what you've redone.
We are also welcoming a Guest Designer this month:  the very talented  Wendy. She's used some cool shells she picked up at the beach this summer. Pop over and check out her project.
This month I have chosen to Re-Invent a home decor item that was cute on it's own but just begged to be Re-Invented into something more striking.
I have used some of the designs from the Performing Arts Collection at CS Designs. I just used 3 designs from that group. You'll have to click on the link and do a little window shopping at Chris's site.
Even though my project is quite simple it reminds me of old movie days gone by. I'm a big fan of old movies so I can see this fitting into a home theater room for just a bit of nostalgia.
Be sure to click over and join in on the fun for the month of September and give my team mates some love on their blogs also. They have created some great projects.

Trick or Treat Owl ATC

It was a dark and stormy night when Owlbert got ready to fly out for some Tricks and Treats.
This is my second entry for the Wicked Wednesday Challenge this week. It's so nice to be able to create something quickly when general living is getting in the way of bigger projects.
With that said this is Monday, so onward and upward--

Owl's Fine Time ATC

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge Blog     WW#46-Whooo Loves Owls?

I'm jumping right in on this Owl challenge at Wicked Wednesday today with this cute owl stamp from GinaK Designs. It's one of the first stamps I bought when I started building my stamp collection. It's in a set with 6 sayings and another owl with a nest. However, I didn't want to use any of the sayings that came with it so I printed this one on the computer, added the lines, cut out and attached. I also used my new woodgrained embossing folder from Stampin' Up to emboss the Crumb Cake ATC and hit the highlights with Soft Suede ink. The Owl's are colored with Copic markers.
The team created lots of owl-fully cute ATCs for our inspiration this week so be sure to click on the link above and check out the challenge.

Blue Skies

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge Blog     WW#45-The Blues

Good Monday Afternoon--Hope everyone had a great weekend.
Ever since I saw what the challenge for Wicked Wednesday was this song started going through my head. It's one of my favorite songs, but I just couldn't get it to quit playing. I tried and tried to come up with something else blue, but I finally succumbed this morning and stamped this Hero Arts cloud stamp on textured white paper and mounted it on a dark blue ATC, printed the words on the computer, cut them out and attached.
It's truly the last minute on this challenge, but bright and early Wednesday morning Jenn will have a new challenge up and running for you to create a little piece of art for. The design team always has lots of inspiration and great projects and there are prizes too.

Birds & Flowers Collage Canvas

Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog     Get Crafty With Canvas

I thought I'd try a collage canvas for this challenge. I had at first decided to make some flowers using canvas paper and incorporating them on a card, but this fast developed into a larger project.
I've been watching some You Tube videos on mixed media collage canvas projects. Talk about eye candy.
I've got quite a few things going on on this canvas. I made the flowers first with a Stampin' Up die and sprayed them with some homemade glimmer mist. I die cut the flourishes out of grunge paper dry embossed them and sprayed with more homemade glimmer mist and inked to paper to bring up the embossing. The chipboard leaves I found in my stash and did them the same way I did the flourishes.  Set these aside and began on the canvas.
I discovered Collage Pauge designed by Traci Bautista. I've been an admirer of her work for several years. Being fairly new to collage I have used a couple of different products, but after using this Collage Pauge on this project, it's my favorite so far. I love the finish you get with this and ease of clean up.
I've also used some modeling paste with a stencil, I'm hooked, such cool texture. I also discovered the Faber Castell brush pens are india ink and they stay wet on the collage long enough to use your finger to smudge for shading and then dry permanent. Let's see what else--Claudine Hellmuth paints, homemade glimmer mists, some distress tarnished brass crackle paint that didn't crackle, but I like the effect anyway, metallic rub ons, designer paper, tissue paper, the edges are covered with tissue tape, and for the finishing touch I added the metal medallion that I got from The Funkie Junkie's etsy shop when she first opened it up. I need to order some stuff from her.
One of the most important things I learned is to either air dry or dry with heat tool between layers.
I had a lot of fun making this yesterday. If you want to get inky, messy, and use a lot of different mediums, do a collage project. You'll be hooked like me.
There's one more week to enter the challenge above hop over and see what the Design Team has created for our inspiration and then enter something of your own.

Loreley's Oyster

Art With No Boundaries     Anything Goes & Rhythm of the Sea Part 2

Our fearless leader Chris had some computer problems so we're a little late getting out of the gate for our second week of this challenge, but she's back up and running. It's amazing how we all really miss our internet access when it's down.
I've got a project for you today with the Loreley Stars & Fish Montage digi. I just couldn't resist this partial quote from Shakespeare. I created the little sign and stuck it in the sand then surrounded it with shells and a star fish. I nestled Loreley in the background and added the pearls. There was a time that a girl couldn't be without a one strand pearl necklace in her jewelry box.
I hope you click on the link above to view what the rest of my Design Team members have come up with. It's amazing what different projects can be made using the same digi.
We've had some wonderful entries already for this challenge, I look forward to seeing more entries before the challenge ends.

EEK You're Sweet

Willow Sketchie Challenge     WSC-9 Aug-Sketch
SU-Only Challenges     SUOC #51-Love Those Designer Papers

I know, I know, it's hot as blue blazes most every where in the US and other parts of the world also. However, I can't shake old habits. When we had our craft business and were participating in craft shows and had booths in craft malls we sold more Halloween and Christmas products in Aug. and Sept. than the rest of the year. And, I love Halloween. When Fall starts looming on the horizon I bloom, I love the colors, and there's just something about the feel in the air at that time of year that invigorates me.
These are new papers from Stampin' Up and a stamp that works with Stampin' Up treat cups. I colored some clear beads orange for the fun part of my shaker cup and added the black lace bow.
And, YES, I do love designer papers, I've got a room full.

Birthday Tagged

Try Stampin' On Tuesday     Challenge #78-Sketch

Lots of things hoppin' and poppin' at my house so I'm squeezing in at the last minute on some challenges today.
Another great sketch from Try Stampin' On Tuesday and I'm still beefing up my Birthday card stash.
Poppy Parade and Pool Party with this cute bobble trim and this fun Specialty Sweet Shop Designer paper went together great for this fun card that can go to a guy or a girl.
There's 1 day left to enter the challenge and since it's so hot everywhere I know some of you are in your studios creating.

Arranged Marriage

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge Blog      WW#44-Frankie & His Bride

This week's challenge at Wicked Wednesday took me until today to come up with this ATC. I looked through all my studio, but I don't have anything like Frankies's real bride. So we're going to pretend that they got divorced and the Mad Scientist has arranged this coming marriage between Frankie and I'm going to call his new bride Matilda. As you can see they are exchanging gifts before they march down the isle.
You've got until Tuesday morning to enter in the challenge so click on the link above and check out the Design Team takes on this interesting ATC challenge.

Loreley Star & Sentiment

Art With No Boundaries     Anything Goes & Rhythm of the Sea Part 1

This first full week of August the Design Team are featuring some of CS Designs sea collection in our art pieces. This is our theme for the first half of August. As usual you can create Anything or follow the DT lead and create something for the bonus round which will put you in the running for a prize. Be sure to add BR after your name if you choose to enter the Bonus Round.
For you inspiration this time I've created a card using a unique background using inks swiped on an acrylic block spritzed with water and mash you paper onto. This gave me the watery effect I was looking for.
I've used the Loreley Stars & Fish Ocean Montage and the As Deep As the Ocean Sentiment. After coloring the digis with Copic markers and adding just a touch of bling I attached them to the card front on top of some netting and the small star fish and tiny shells.
I hope you'll click on the link above and check out what the rest of the Design Team have created to help inspire what project you might create to enter into this fortnights challenge.

Blue Skies

CAS-UAL FRIDAYS     CFC64: On Cloud 9-Things you'd see in the sky
Less Is More     LIM 79-Colour-Blue & Green
Mark's Finest Papers & Stamps     Speedy Fox and Friends Challenge 119-Getting Back To Nature

Before I share about my card I'd first like to welcome all my new followers and say thanks for all the nice comments you leave me, all are appreciated.
I've combined the first two challenges this afternoon because they both like to see lots of white space. Clean &; Simple and then couldn't resist entering this one in the Speedy Fox challenge for some nature bird watching.
Around here this time of year we see lots of birds called Grackles in the air and hanging out on power lines and roof top businesses. In our downtown area they even take food off patio diners plates. So this is a homage to our summer Grackle invasion. ;-)
If you like Clean & Simple click on the links above and check out the inspiration these two blog have to offer.

Hello

Stampin' Royalty     SR#135-Color Challenge-Gumball Green, Summer Starfruit, Raspberry Ripple
Try Stampin On Tuesday     Challenge #77-Sketch
Willow Sketchie Challenge     WSC 2nd Aug-Sketch/Theme 1,2, 3

These are two of my favorite challenge sites. Lots of Stampin' Up products are used although you don't have to use those products to participate. However, I have to say for me Stampin' Up just keeps getting better and better.
So needless to say this card is all Stampin' Up products. I'm not trying to do an oversell here, I promise.
I just love how this card turned out.
When you start with a great sketch and great colors, you get a great result.
A quick edit this afternoon--
I've added a new challenge to me--Kellylouj saw my card and invited me to join in on their challenge because my card fit the theme part of the challenge. I've added a pic of their sketch and there are 2 days left to play.  It's always nice to find new challenges and fun places to play.

Shopping Day ATC

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge Blog     WW#43-Take Time For You

Two ATCs in one day for the same challenge. O.K. girls, I'll quit and give all the rest of you a chance to shine. And speaking of shine, here's for all you gals who like you glitz and glamor days out. I think this ATC just about covers it all even an oven mitt at the gourmet kitchen store.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the rest of you pamper yourselves when you take the time.

Peace Within ATC

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge Blog     WW#43-Take Time For You

For this Take Time For You ATC I chose to use pastel colors and this wonderful Proverb. When I take time for myself I like peace and quiet, a good book, and when we're not at the height of summer, a cool evening on the patio.
I've got another ATC in mind for this challenge also, so if I get a little extra time in the studio today I'll get it posted later this evening.
Be sure to click on the link above and see what the Design Team has to inspire you with for this fun challenge. Another great sponsor with a very cute image up for the prize.
