Indy Rella Hearts

Mindful Creations     Adventures in Monotangle #4

Zentangle® usually doesn't require your tile to be something. It's kind of like cloud gazing,  you can see all kinds of images, but this tangle seemed to cry out for a design. These double hearts in red just came off the pen and then I had to add the red border.

Zendala Dare #50

The Bright Owl     Zendala Dare #50

This is my creation for the Zendala Dare #50.
I used Candleglow and a variation of Hourglass in the middle then some triangle lines, there is probably a name for that tangle, but didn't take the time to suss it out.
When I finished the outside triangles I was going to continue, but I decided I liked the white spaces that were left.
Erin has already got Dare # 51 up so when you get through celebrating the holiday in your own special way click over to The Bright Owl and check out what Erin's got going on.

Purple Mooka Flower

i am the Diva CZT     Weekly Challenge #111 "More-Mooka-Madness-Monotangle-Mania

Almost every entrant that I looked at to see how they had interpreted this Mooka challenge said the same thing--don't use this one much or not at all because it seems very hard to master.
I did a couple of small practice tiles trying to get the feel of this tangle and I have to say I will need a lot more practice especially when I feel like I can cross some lines and keep up with where I am. My version here is a primitive version compared to quite a few of the other more advanced tanglers. These are the kind of tangles that separate the beginners from the advanced.
I will say there are many advanced artists that aspire to become even half as good as they are.
Thankfully there will be another challenge next week that will allow me practice some more and guess what there is still time to enter this week's challenge and get your tangle in the slide show for all to admire.

Cookie Tin Zentangle Box

i am the diva CZT     Weekly Challenge #110-"Get Rid of the Box"

To say I'm late entering this challenge is an understatement, however, at the Diva's challenge you can enter the challenges anytime. I just won't be on the slideshow and that's o.k.
The challenge was to Get Rid of the Box. This was my largest Zentangle project to date. I decided to alter a cookie tin we got at Christmas and oh yes, it's empty.
I kept track of all the tangles I did on the top: the very middle is a black circle, seed pods, Vibes, Doorknobs, Satellites, Jagged, Seminole Patchwork, the last ring on the outside looks kind of like topiary trees to me because I was trying to cover up a boo boo and there is still a slight boo boo on there, I know whose eyes will pick it out :-)
The tangles around the body of the box I didn't keep up with names because some of them are changed up.
My friend Cecile decided she would like to take this one home with her for all her hair scrunchies. It's always an ego rush for someone to ask for your projects to go live at their home.
Thanks to Laura for letting us enter the challenges after the deadline. I didn't realize this tin would take me as long as it did.
Now I'm off to do the next challenge since it will be just a 3 1/2" X 3 1/2" tile.  Of course, she chose another  tough challenge for me, we're to use the Mooka tangle. I'm going to have to watch the video a couple of 3 times and maybe a couple of 3 practices. Practice makes Perfect, or that's what my Grandmother used to say :-)

Triangle Monotangle

Mindful Creations     Adventures in Montangle #3
Roy at Mindful Creations posted this template last Thursday for us to accept the challenge of filling it in with one tangle. After some contemplation the only thing I kept seeing was triangles, sooooo, I filled it in with triangles. Variations from the tangle Triangle tangle from Book 2 of Suzanne McNeill, CZT series.
I used the 3 1/2" X 3 1/2" tile style.
Roy will issue another challenge Thursday of this week, so be sure to click over and give this one a go or wait until Thursday for a new challenge.

Spring ATC

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge Blog     WW#76-Spring Fever

Last year I didn't get my ATC's posted for this challenge til Saturdays, now this year it's Sunday, but with my glass half full I will think better late than never. :-)
Last week I won a Top 3 for Challenge #75-Fangs. Thanks team for the honor.
I used a stencil for the hive, bees, and grass, my trusty cotton ball clouds. Then I tried to create a cute border with multi colored scallops and my own lettering. Well, sometimes things look better in your mind than when they come off the pen. Still here in the area where I live everything is blooming and the bees are beginning to buzz--Spring Has Sprung.

Zendala Dare #49

The Bright Owl     Zendala Dare #49

My circle ended up being a 4 1/2" circle and I'm so bad about not keeping up with the names of the tangles I'm using. I've got about 12 different Zentangle books by various artists. After I look the template over for a bit, I start thumbing through the books, choose one tangle at a time, start tangling then forget to jot down the name of each tangle. Then, like the peaks under the outside boxes those are just fill in lines that I thought would look good in that spot. I hope that's kosher when you're tangling.
Erin at The Bright Owl continues to challenge us with such interesting templates even with her busy life schedule. Here's a big hug to Erin for giving us such a fun place to play and meet other tanglers.
If you've never tangled before it's very addicting, hence a second version of Zendala #49. I usually print 2 templates in case I mess up or don't like the first one I'm working on. I couldn't sleep last night so I started tangling on this second template. I liked it right up to the point where a wild hair came over me and I tried to make the center look like a Spirelli. Since I'm not the do over girl I just shaded and considered it finished and in the spirit of not letting anything go to waste I decided to post it here but not enter it.

Now off to the next challenge, oops, laundry first--

First Gelli Plate Papers

These are my first attempts at using my Gelli Plate with acrylic paints and some metallic paints.
I had some colored card stock I wasn't that thrilled with the color of so I chose some colors I thought wouldn't clash but maybe enhance.
The second photo with the purple paper I just spread the metallic ink and pressed the paper. The first and third papers are also with metallic ink, but tried out some stencils. The last photo is on lilac paper with acrylic paint and stencils.
I think this is going to take some practice, but as each pressing comes out different, and they will be used as backgrounds whatever I put on top will inevitably improve their looks. :-)
If you have a Gelli Plate and have been playing around with yours leave me a comment so I can come over to your place and maybe pick up some inspiration. I think I'm going to need a lot more practice. Maybe some more YouTube videos.
Of course, Carolyn at A Colorful Journey is giving a class starting April 1st on just this subject and I've already signed up. I can see after this first practice it's a good thing I did. Pop over and check out the details of the class you might like to sign up also.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

A Spark of Art-spiration      A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
Carolyn Dube at A Colorful Journey gives her email subscribers an Art-spiration each month. I should have taken a picture of the art-spiration that I printed out to alter, but I got ahead of myself with this idea. I'll do better next month. The main inspiration is in the middle. I first sprayed the journal page with Dylusions Sprays, then collaged the art piece on. I stamped the houses, the grass, and the leaves of the trees with Ranger Dylusions stamps.  I used Faber-Castell Big Brush pens to make the tree trunk, add some sun rays, do some colorings, and outlining, then a white Stabilo pencil to add the words in my handwriting.

Wolf at the Door ATC

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge Blog     WW#75-Show Us Your Fangs

I went to Lily at The Octopode Factory for this fellow with giant fangs. The Wolf at the Door, she calls him Wolfman.
I got the door from free clip art and then I couldn't resist the I'll huff and I'll puff from The Little Pigs story. I colored Wolfman with Copic Markers.
You've still got time to create a little piece of Fangtastic art and enter the challenge, there's a prize with this one and we all like to win something from time to time.

Paradox 'n Round Monotangle #2

Mindful Creations     Adventures in Monotangle #2

I have to say this one was really outside the box for me. I had to really study the instructions.
I took Roy's suggestion of a circle, except I put some overlapping circles and then began to fill them in. Not quite as striking as Roy's 3D project, but still came up with some interesting shapes inside the circles.
Paradox takes a little bit of thinking, but comes up so different each time. As usual this wasn't my first attempt. Practice, Practice, Practice, sometimes makes perfect.

Shaman Dancer Tangle

I am the diva czt     Weekly Challenge #109-"Zentangle Quest"

This was a quest alright. Rick and Maria at gave Laura a prompt from a picture that one of Maria's friends sent her from Italy. It wasn't really a tangle just a process towards a tangled tile. It is supposed to come out looking like folds. One of the gals who entered created a tile that looked like a curtain.
This was not my first attempt at using this process and it will take a bit more practice on my part I can see. However, when I drew this string and finished the supposed folded tangle I saw a head, hence my Shaman Dancer Tangle.
There's one thing for sure, no one else will have a tile like this one. :-)

Blue/Green Swirl Zendala

The Bright Owl      Zendala Dare #48

I decided to go with color this time around. I used 4 major tangles on this zendala.(eyeballs, firecracker, variation of sidewalk, and puff border)  The center and lines around the edges I don't think are really tangles just fill ins.
I used PrismaColor pencils, light blue, turquiose, and lime green to do the coloring and shading. I used a grey Stabilo pen to do the inking.
I kept seeing a flower in this one, but in the end it didn't turn out like a flower. It had more of a swirling feeling.

Monotangle #1 Vibes

Mindful Creations     Monotangle #1

As you have noticed I have been Zentangling lately. Through the 2 challenges I have been entering I found Roy Stauffer whose blog is Mindful Creations. Roy has decided to begin a new challenge and has invited all of us to participate.
It's going to be a Monotangle challenge. The first challenge is to use one tangle draw a Z string and fill in the spaces with different variations on the tangle. I chose the tangle Vibes from Suzanne McNeill's Zentangle 6 book.
If you haven't tried Zentangle this would be a good place to start because you just use one tangle and it gives you a chance to practice it and get the hang of it.
Roy will be posting a new challenge each Thursday morning. Give it a go for some bold pieces of art.

Whyz + Other Tangles

I am the diva CZT     Weekly Challenge #108-UMT v. XIV "Whyz"

The first week of each month Laura issues a Use My Tangle challenge. Yes, anyone can create a new tangle and send it to Laura and she will pick someones tangle for all of us to use and enter the challenge.
This week the tangle was created by Jane MacKugler. You need to head over to her blog for the instructions and to check out her other great art pieces.
I put Jane's Tangle "Whyz" with several other tangles. I like how the "Whyz" looks like twisted spools one way and pinwheels another, at least that's what I see so far.
I actually caught on to this one pretty quick and I'm looking forward to using it some more.

Zendala Dare #47

The Bright Owl     Zendala Dare #47-Losing It

For some reason my background came out looking kind of tan or pinkish to me. Still photo challenged, but always a work in progress.
This is the first week of the month and there is an extra part to the challenge, this month since Erin has started her new slimming plan she chose for us to lose part of the template. I'll post the template below so you can see if you can decide what part I lost:

As soon as I saw this template I thought of the Cootie tangle for the outside ovals. The strings with the black triangles were inspired by Joanne Fink. Another of the tangles is Florz, but I'm not sure what the flower looking one is.
Erin's challenge has truly inspired me to think outside the box.

Happy Creating,
Beverly G ♥
