Monotangle Crescent Moon

Mindful Creations     Adventures in Monotangle #16-Crescent Moon

The moon this week has been beautiful. In our area the stars have also been especially bright. So it's been a stellar week for astronomers.
This may be one of the first tangles you learn when you take classes, but since I'm self taught in all honesty this won't be one of my favorites. But, I'm always up for a challenge so I created this tile.
Click over and check out the other artist's creations, I think you'll find some very interesting creations for your viewing pleasure. Or, you may want to give tangling a try and enter the challenge also.

Weekly Challenge #124-Helping Hands

i am the diva CZT     Weekly Challenge #124-"We are Calgary"-remembering people who have been touched by disasters recently

Laura has given us a free week to create some art remembering people who have suffered in disasters in Canada, but also all over the world. We're only half way through 2013 and it seems this year has seen a record number of storms, fires, bombs, and people just not thinking clearly.
I used a piece of 9" X 11" mixed media paper, traced my hands with a Black Sharpie marker, Zig 01 pen to do the tangles and a red Micron 005, then Prismacolor pencils to color my hands and create an aura and Gambasol to blend the pencils.
Sometimes humans seem very divisive toward one another, but it seems in times of trouble a better part of human nature rises to the top and we step up and help those we see with a bigger need than our self.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who have lost their most precious family members, pets, and possessions and who are having to start their lives all over again. You can't replace those  you've loved but they remain forever in your heart, but possessions can always be replaced.
Chin up, look forward, and keep steppin'.

Zendala Dare #62

The Bright Owl      Zendala Dare #62

This week Erin has given us a very open template to play with. I have filled the 3 1/2" square with black tangles and I have filled the 4 1/2" circle with dark purple, light purple, and hot pink tangles using Stabilo fine tip markers. I started in the center of the first one and worked my way to the outside and the circle I started on the outside points and worked my way to the center.
Before I got ready to post my tiles I went over to see how some of the other people who entered did the center of their tiles. I have to say some very interesting creations. Click over to The Bright Owl and check out all the entries.

Adventure in Monotangle #15

Mindful Creations      Adventure in Monotangle #15-Betweed

This seems to be one of the most popular tangles around. It's very versatile, so that must be why.
My creation started with a string and then I filled in the spaces with Betweed. Some of the lines I made curvier than others for a pretty cool swirly effect.

"Is it a Zentangle?" #123

i am the diva, CZT     Weekly Challenge #123-Guest Post-Marie Vennekens CZT

The title of this challenge is "Is it a Zentangle?"
We are to create a tile without traditional tangles or their variations, then speak about how it went for us.
I created 2 tiles but I'm not sure whether I got this challenge correct or not. My heart tile has some tangles, my second tile I created a string like a G then filled the spaces, but they still seem to be tangles. Once I have learned tangles I find it difficult not to bring them forward to use in on my tiles and zendala templates. When I get ready to do some tangling the patterns seem to float through my mind and with the help of some of Suzanne McNeil's books on Zentangle I'm still learning more. Zentangle.com and TanglePatterns.com are also sources for patterns to use.
After I had done my tiles I did check out some other entrants and I always check out what Lendenzer has created. Now she looked at some images from Google and created a new pattern. I'm starting to see how I can look for shapes in many places and don't have to use patterns already created. One day I might even create a new pattern myself.

Zendala Dare #61

The Bright Owl      Zendala Dare #61

Erin is back, feeling better this week and boy has she given us a challenging template, or it was for me.
I've done the 3 1/2" square and the 4 1/2" round tiles. I find myself usually using the more linear tangles for some reason, but all these points and small areas seem to kind of stump me. After finishing both of these and taking a step back for a look, I find I'm quite satisfied with my creations.
Click over and check out what the other entrants have for created. I never tire of seeing what different creations can be made from the same template. So Cool!!

7 Index Card A Day Cards

 Sun

 Favorite Flowers

 Ivy

 Circus

 Junk Mail

 Camera

Rubber Stamp

Daisy Yellow     Index Card A Day--Week 2 Prompts

I had a block of time last Saturday so I created 7 index cards using the prompts from Week 2 of Tammy's challenge at Daisy Yellow. Even though it says Index Card A Day my days seem to get away from me before I have turned around twice after I get up in the mornings. So, my creative journey with this challenge will probably be in blocks of time like everything else in my life. General living has to come first and I have people who require a good portion of my time each day.
Enough said on that matter--
Card 1-yellow marker, sponged edges, calligraphy pen (I had forgotten how much I liked using
these until I did the calligraphy prompt)
Card 2-Lg. Background stamped, colored with distress markers
Card 3- Free hand cut hearts stitched to card, sponged edges, calligraphy pen
Card 4-Sponged background, stamped ferris wheel, cut outs from a sheet of12 X 12 pattern
             paper
Card 5-Scraps torn from junk mail recycling box glued to card, sponged edges
Card 6-Stamped 2 Tim Holtz stamps with Sepia and Black ink
Card 7-Stamped a Paula Best stamp, colored with distress markers, stamped Tim Holtz
sentiment stamp with new Smoky Slate Stampin' Up ink

I'm enjoying creating these cards just for some fun out of the box arting using stuff from my stash that I may not have used in awhile.

Adventures in Monotangle #14-Hollibaugh

Mindful Creations     Adventures in Monotangle #14-Hollibaugh

This is my entry for Roy's challenge at Mindful Creations this week. The tangle he has chosen to challenge us with this week is Hollibaugh. I've chosen to fill in the spaces between my Hollibaugh lines with 2 shades of blue and 2 shades of green Copic markers for a clean fresh summery look.
The challenge just went up on Thursday so you still have time to enter. With the kiddos home for the summer and lots of extra activities going on, if you find yourself on the way to the pool or the beach take your tangling supplies along and while the kids are whooping it up keep one eye on them and one eye on a tile and create something with the Hollibaugh tangle and when you get home click over to Roy's place and enter in for a Zen moment.

Weekly Challenge #122 Grid (un)Locked

i am the diva, CZT     Weekly Challenge #122-Grid (un)Locked

This week it's been all about grids at The Diva's Challenge. Laura gives some examples to mix and match or just pick one and create a tile.
Be sure to check out Rick and Maria at Zentangle.com for more information and Zentangle patterns to play around with.

ICAD Map

Daisy Yellow     Week 2 Day 9-City or Map

I have an old calendar that I took a picture of this map from a bigger picture, cut down to this heart portion. I used Fired Brick distress ink pad to paper, stamped the large background stamp with Soft Suede ink added the 1592 which is the period that this map was from, glued the map on and batta bing my next ICAD.
I have numbered mine wrong so don't let me confuse you because Tammy has given us 8 prompts and there are only 7 days in a week, but I'm going to carry on numbering mine this way because I happen to like all the prompts so far.
At some point in time I may vary from the rules and that's o.k. because this is supposed to be for fun.

ICAD Calligraphy

Daisy Yellow     Week 1 Day 8- ICAD-Calligraphy

I dug out some old chalk ink pads to see if they were still wet and they are not wet enough to stamp with but wet enough to do great soft sponging. I did the calligraphy with a Magenta Faber-Castell Pitt Calligraphy pen. If you hold the pen at the correct angle the tip does the work for you.
If you haven't checked into the Index Card A Day Challenge yet, click over and read up on it and give it a try. Fun canvases to try all sorts of different techniques and ideas on.

ICAD Paisley

Daisy Yellow     Week 1 Day 7-Paisley

With a brayer and a Kaleidacope ink pad I created the Rainbow background then did some tangling of Paisleys with a fine point black Sharpie marker. Day 7 goes in the box.

ICAD Crown

Daisy Yellow     Week 1 Day 6-Crown

I already had an idea so this ICAD came together very quickly like they are supposed to. A 3" X 5" index card is not a lot of territory to cover. This one is very simple. It sticks to the Rainbow Theme using distress inks sponged on and dried,  with a Royal King and Queen gold and silver crown with a royal purple flourish in the middle heat embossed.
Pizza tonight and then back to Day 7-11.

ICAD-Recycle-Repurpose

Daisy Yellow     ICAD Week 1 Day 5-Recycle-Repurpose

As you can see this is the Index Card for Day 5 and this is Day 11. Dragging up the rear as usual. Whenever, I sign up for anything general living rears it's ugly head and interferes with my arty play time.
This is a Stampin' Up stamp set I borrowed from a friend. I liked the whole stamp set so much I wanted to get it all on the card so I used the backing from the stamps glued to the card and stamped them in their respective holes. Then I preceded to mess it up by going around the insides with brown marker and down the sides, where I didn't realize that I had gotten glue on the edges so the marker didn't color over that. And since I'm not the do over girl this one goes in the box. Onto 6-11 and maybe I can catch up, but alas if I don't that's o.k. I'll just plug along like the old tortoise and eventually cross the finish line. I've pretty much decided to carry this on all the way til Tammy starts a new one next year, if she does.

Zendala Dare #2

There was no challenge at The Bright Owl this week due to Erin being embroiled in general living. I think we all know what that means. The fun goes to the back burner.
Since I had done the template for challenge 1, I decided as an homage to Erin and all her hard work creating a fun place for us to play week after week I would post my creation of template 2. I'm enjoying her templates so much that I also think I'm going to go onto 3 and forward to when I actually started entering her challenges.
She has very generously provided all the previous templates so we can go back and have some fun with them.
A big shout out to Erin--don't let the general living get you down girl--keep steppin'.

Shard Tangle #13

Mindful Creations     Adventures in Monotangles #13-Shard

Roy seems to be back in the saddle and this week's tangle is Shard created by Carole Ohl, CZT at http://openseedarts.blogspot.com . I kept to the straight lines of this tangle. I was going to practice a couple of times, but I liked this first attempt so I decided to stick with it.
The other entrants have been more creative with this tangle than I have so you'll have to click over and check out all the variations they have come up with.

Laura our resident Diva has a challenge for us to use a tangle by someone. Mary Kissel at tanglegami.blogspot.ca created Birds on a Wire. When I saw the name of the challenge and then I looked at the step outs on Mary's blog I just couldn't get telephone poles out of my head.

Zendala Dare #60-Template #1

 3 1/2" Tile
4 1/2" Circle Tile
The Bright Owl     Zendala #60-The Devil You Know

The first challenge of each month has an extra task attached. This time around we were to pick a template that we had had some trouble with. Since I've only been in the challenge since Challenge #45, I decided to pick template #1. I liked it so much I ended up doing the square and the circle.
Be sure to check out The Bright Owl for a fun challenge. Erin has lots of fun templates and you can go back and start from the first if you want to or start from the current challenge.

Verve Monotangle #12

Mindful Creations     Adventures in Monotangles #12-Verve

Poor Roy has had a hard time lately and his latest trouble is the Shingles, very painful. So we want to give Roy a big cyber hug and hope he gets to feeling better soon.
The Monotangle for this challenge is Verve. I did a string first and then filled in the spaces. When I looked at it, it looked kind of like a caterpillar to me so I added the little feelers.
Click over and check out the other entrants and if you would like you still have time to join in on the challenge.

ICAD-Rainbow Zebra

Daisy Yellow     Index Card A Day-Week 1-Day1-
watercolor pencils, water brush, zebra clipart, black sharpie marker, pink sharpie marker

Well, as usual I'm a day late, but this time not a dollar short.
Over at Daisy Yellow Tammy has this great challenge going on for us to play in. An index card a day, yes that's right, a 3" X 5" index card. She even gives us some themes and prompts, but she's a true artist and gives us permission to break the rules and follow our creative hearts if we so choose.
I was so excited to find her site. She's got lots of artistic things going on and I was pleased to see she's a Texas girl also. There's some talent down here in the Lone Star State :-)
I'm off to post this in the linky Tammy has up and back to my studio to get today's ICAD done. Yippee, two posts in one day.
This challenge runs through July, so click over and give it go, I bet you'll have some fun.
