The Bright Owl Zendala Dare #104

The Bright Owl    Zendala Dare #104

Erin really out did herself with this template. So different than anything I've see so far and a REAL
I know there is one official tangle on the second version above: Verve, as far as any other official tangles this template truly stumped me.So what you see is what you get.
I've had a disconcerted couple of days so I'm just glad to get any lines on paper and posted. Now I'll take my negative Nelly attitude and sign off for tonight.

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge #169

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge Blog    WW ATC Challenge #169-Make it Sparkle

It's been a long time since I have participated in a challenge at this site, but I used to be a regular. Jenn Borg welcomed me with open arms as she does everyone. The Design Team and the other entrants are just as friendly and welcoming.
Since I'm having to grab small bits of studio time I decided maybe I could whip up an ATC. So with some Stampin' Up products and a bit of Stamp-n-Stuff embossing powder this was my result.
I don't think the photo shows the sparklyness of the rainbow crystal embossing powder, but a bit of sparkly never hurt a few free flying butterflies.
If you are familiar or not with ATC's take a bit of time to click on the link above and check out some fun pieces of art.

Stampin' Up Products--So Saffron cardstock, Whisper White card stock, inks: Pistachio Pudding, Daffodil Delight, Smoky Slate, Stamp Sets: Font for You, Perpetual Birthday Calendar, Work of Art.
Versamark ink, Stamp-n-Stuff Rainbow Crystal embossing powder, Stamp-A-Ma-Jig.

"It's A String Thing" #103

Tickled To Tangle    "It's A String Thing" #103

This week Adele has set a challenge in honor of Grace McIntyre with three tangles that start with the letter "M". Meer, MI2, and Mr.E. We are allowed to pick which ones we want to use or use all three.
When I saw this string and the tangles Meer and Mr.E seemed like they were the perfect fit to me.
I'm not sure if I got Mr. E done just right, but it's my best interpretation today.
Adele will be posting the entries from "It's A String Thing" #102 in the next couple of days, right now she's spending some fun R&R with her Grandchildren. So keep checking the Tickled to Tangle link above for challenge #102 and then next Monday she will post the entries from challenge #103.
Time to grab a bit more studio time--

2 Challenges Accomplished and Entered

Every Inchie Monday    Yellow

i am the diva czt    Challenge #228-all things natural & organic

It's a Sunny Monday here in my neck of the woods. I accomplished the art for these two challenges at the links above. After this post is done I will go over and enter then it will be off to the grocery store and a few errands.
My Inchie was created with Stampin' Up So Saffron card stock, an Inkadinkadoo inchie stamp from the Beach set, Versamark Ink, and Stampin' Up clear embossing powder. Yellow sun, yellow sand just calls for some flip flops and a day at the beach(if you live near one) or a day at the pool.
Laura at i am the diva czt is still on a much needed vaca, so another of her talented guest bloggers, Cari Sultanik CZT is hosting the challenge this week.
I completed is a Zentangle tile supposedly depicting all things natural and organic. For some reason I was determined to use a hot pink Micron Pen 01 and a green Micron Pen 01 which looks turquoise in the photo, and a soft pink Prismacolor Pencil for the shading.  I believe in the world of Mixed Media this would be called a hot mess. I had to look at this one and say in a loud inner voice "there are no mistakes in Zentangle".
I keep thinking if I keep creating  I'll get my creative mojo back.
Must keep steppin' and looking forward.
So be it, I'm off to enter these two challenges.

General Living--Mountain or Molehill?

Where has this week gone?
I have gotten a Zentangle tile done for the Tickled to Tangle chanllenge and the 3 1/2 X 3 1/2 mandala tile plus the medium mandala tile for Challenge #103 at The Bright Owl. There's just one small hitch, I haven't gotten the photos taken or entered the challenges.
It' been a mountain of a general living week. I'll just keep steppin' and try again starting tomorrow.
Hope all of you have had studio time and done some--

Diva Challenge #227-Circus Life

I Am The Diva, CZT    Challenge #227-Circus Life

I'm going to have to get a calendar on the wall to the right of my laptop station and note what days all the challenges I want to participate in these days so I'm not always behind or miss one. I missed the challenge before this one, but carrying on.
Lee Darter, CZT, is Guest Blogger this week. She had a grand vacation near the summer place of Ringling Bros. Circus this summer, hence the name of the challenge--Circus Life.
She is challenging us to use Cack: Adele Bruno, Tropicana: Kate Ahrens, CZT. She gave a short list to pick from to add to these two to round out a simulation of a 3 ring circus. I picked Florz: Maria Thomas, The Original Zentangle Master. I'm not real thrilled with my 3 Cack that tangle is going to take some more practice on my part, but other than that I am pretty pleased with how this tile came out.
I think there is still time to enter or if you are not so inclined at least click on the link above and check out some amazing artists who can really make pen and paper sing.

Acrylic Paint, Crayola Slick Stix Art Journal Pages

Today I was trying out Crayola Slick Stix. I've watched some YouTube videos comparing these to Gelatos. As I sit here deciding what to write, I guess this is kind of a my opinion/review kind of post.
This journal is in an old Webster Dictionary that I got at Goodwill for $1. I've torn out quite a few pages so far and glued one or two, sometimes 3 or 4 together. I had already done a yellow and orange acrylic paint wash on these two pages, so they have been dry for quite some time. I started on the right page first using the Slick Stix for the lettering, added a little water and blended the colors a little bit. Moved some color around on the background around the lettering, some with fingers and some with water color brush and water. I wanted some white splashy dots so I ended up making a big squishy pile of white Slick Stix with water on the left page, using my fan brush I did some flicking on the right page.
Then you say to yourself what the heck am I going to do with that white blob. It was still wet so I grabbed the brown Slick Stix and made 3 circles which brought to mind sunflowers but that didn't work with the background already yellow so I ended up using the red Slick Stix which kept blending with the white and brown so they came out a kind of reddish pink, I added the leaves and decided to call them Dahlias.
I tried moving them around with my finger, they either wiped off or didn't quite mush around as good as the Gelatos, in my opinion.
I used some white acrylic paint watered down to flick more white dots on both pages then dried them with a heat tool. With a black uniball pen I finished off the lettering and going around flowers and leaves, then with a FaberCastell Pitt Big Brush Pen in a dull orange color I shaded the letters.
I like the bright vibrancy of the colors and I'll use the Slick Stix again, but I won't give up my Gelatos.

Every Inchie Monday--Energy

Every Inchie Monday    Energy

Quickly, before I sit at the pool with Grandkids and friends, my Energy Inchie, and boy do I need some energy.
I chose this stamp from Inkadinkado Special Thoughts and one of my spray ink watercolor papers to express my thoughts on Energy today. To be a bird soaring over a landscape in a clear blue sky exploring at will, now that's some good Energy.
Try as I might this was the best I could get the focus. So it's not your eyes or your computer it's my bad photography skills.
That's all for me today, hope I can find some shade at the pool.
Don't forget to check out the Inchie site.

The Bright Owl Challenge #102

The Bright Owl   #102 Challenge

I got the 3 1/2 X 3 1/2 tile done with Paushalov and a variation of Kolum tangles. I also got the medium tile mandala done with Curls, Whiltshire 1, and Splitzer tangles.
Now it's Monday again and time for another Challenge at the Bright Owl. Erin has been in the process of beginning her new job. I bet she is better at multitasking than I am so I'm sure we'll have a new template today or tomorrow. Be sure to click on the link above and check out the other entrants art.
The older I get the faster time flies.
So I'm off to check out Every Inchie Monday, maybe a 1" tile won't be to hard to complete before general living lifts it's head again.

Live Love Cards/July Challenge Masking

Live Love Cards   July Challenge Masking

Today I finally got this card made for the July Challenge at Live Love Cards. Before, I tell you about my card and list the supplies I used let me tell you a little about Live Love Cards.
Live Love Cards was created by Darlene DeVries. She's a talented lady who has been stamping for 8 or more years and card making for 5 or more years. I've been a follower of her blog and her YouTube channel for quite some time so earlier this year when she created the site LiveLoveCards it was a no- brainer for me to jump right in and after reading what the site was going to be about and a fee of $2.50 a month or $27.00 a year I leaped on the $27.00 a year. She calls this site video-centric exclusive for card makers of all skill levels. She uses a variety of supplies, including Stampin' Up. Her sister is her Stampin' Up demonstrator and together they have set up a way to give back or pay it forward whichever way you like to look at things. Her sister donates a portion of her sales to a charity for foster children. That was just a quick blub about the site, if you are not familiar with Darlene and her site please click on the link above and check things out, there is so much more than I have described.
This is the first monthly challenge I have participated in. I'll put a list of supplies at the end of this post.
I stamped the cupcake on the panel then stamped a cupcake on a piece of masking paper, cut that out and applied that over the cupcake image. I then stamped the sand and the clouds and colored the cupcake. I added the strip of orange polka dot paper to the left side to match the clouds and assembled the card. I applied the heart sequin, the stickles, and popped up the sentiment.
I really hope a lot of you check out this site, Darlene has lots of video tutorials and product comparisons, plus, plus, plus.

Supply List:
Stampin' Up Products-Coastal Cabana card base 4 1/2 X 5 1/2, Island Oasis DSP, Whisper White card stock, Inks: Coastal Cabana, Hello Honey, Soft Sky, alcohol markers, Stamp Sets: Work of Art, Party This Way, Bitty Banners Framelits, heart sequin.
Other Supplies:  Ranger Wendy Vecchi Archival Ink-Potting Soil, Doodlebug Design Stamp & Die Set-Welcome Home, Impression Obsession-Palm Cupcake Stamp, Ranger Clear Rock Candy Stickles, Wink of Stella Clear.

It's A String Thing #101

Tickled to Tangle

Adele has started challenge #101 with String 101 from the Tangle Patterns site. Just a quick aside, you can find patterns, tutorials, and all kinds of inforamation on Zentangle at that site.
Now back to "It's A String Thing #101. The two patterns we are using this week are in honor of  Maria Thomas and Adele's husbands birthdays, Rixty and LG.
I had not done either pattern before so this was a real challenge for me. After I had finished my tile I decided to cover the small black hearts with red. I know, I know, hind site is always better, but I got out my new Derwent Graphik pens, chose the red one and covered the black hearts. These pens are so cool, they can either be opaque or when you add water you can use them like water colors. Check out YouTube videos on these, you'll be amazed. The hind site would be if I had decided to make them red to begin with they would have looked so much better. I guess I'm just going to have to give in and realize I'm going to have some shaky lines and blobs on my art from now on. On the brighter side I think I'll just call them bits of uniqueness, if that's even a word.
Now for the reveal, here's my tile:

Thank you all for stopping by. It's hot here. We have two air conditioner units and one has gone out, fortunately the repair company I use is ringing my doorbell as I'm finishing this. Hope they can fix it tonight.

"It's A String Thing" #100 The Zentennial

"It's A String Thing" #100 The Zentennial--Tickled To Tangle

Adele has been running her challenge for 2 years now and this is the 100th "It's A String Thing".
First Congratulations to Adele!! She's a very talented and generous lady. I'm a recent follower and entrant and I have enjoyed her Wednesday Words of Wisdom as much as the Challenges.
Adele created the string for this challenge as well as a new tangle which she has creatively named 100.
On Father's Day I missed her effort to be subtle with the layout of the string and could have spelled DAD. This time I caught on and with 3 of the variations of her new tangle 100 I attempted a giant 100.
Click on the link above and check out the string and all the variations of her new tangle.

The Bright Owl Challenge #101

The Bright Owl   Challenge #101

Erin is back at The Bright Owl Challenge. She persevered all through her nursing school and general living so I can understand that when she finished nursing school she needed a break. However, I'm glad she's back. She always provides us with a template in 3 sizes.
I'm going to enter the 3 1/2 X 3 1/2 tile in the challenge, but I just had to post all three of my attempts here. Not only are my three templates different, but if you click on the link above you will be amazed at all the other artists beautiful tiles they entered. I'm am still amazed at how many variations can be achieved with patterns and templates.
I'm sure you will notice the wonky black spiky circle toward the middle. When I first learned about Zentangle one of the things that drew me to it was the statement Rick and Maria made about there were no mistakes, no rulers, no erasers, just pen to paper. So you will always be able to find some flaws in my art no matter what medium I'm using, but it's so much more noticeable in black and white.
It's been awhile since I read Erin's rules so I'm not sure of the deadline, click over and check things out. Even if you just print out the templates and do them for your own pleasure that will make you creatively happy.

Happy Creating,

i am the diva czt challenge #225

i am the diva czt Challenge #225

Good Saturday to Everyone. I've got a couple of posts today, this being the first one.
Laura-the diva, has taken a little vacation and is featuring some guests to lead us on her challenges til she returns.
This week's guest is Jen Crutchfield CZT.  She's challenging us to use two or three colors, but I broke out my Prismacolor Pencils and gave it a go. I did a larger version of this in one of my personal journals a while ago. I may have CASE-d another artist on this one and if I did I want to give that artist credit. Just don't know which one, if any.
I just love the design and color of this 3 1/2 X 3 1/2 square.
Don't forget to click on the link above and check out what the other entrants have submitted.

CASE-D 2 Cards

As the title says I Copied And Stole, the E is for everything, but on the first card I changed the color of the middle balloon from Melon Mambo to Peach Parfait. On the bottom card I changed the pattern paper, the card base color, and I'm not sure about the color of the balloon. I've slept since I finished up these cards. So I didn't quite Steal it all. I sure will be glad when my personal MOJO returns then I might not have to CASE.
Before I go any further I want to give the two ladies I CASE-D these from credit. I don't know how to make a link to their YouTube channels, but if you go to YouTube and type in their names into the search bar they will come up. I typed in the name of the Stampin' Up stamp set, Celebrate Today, and looked around, these were the two I liked the best for what I wanted.
The first card is: CLB Craft Creations
The second card is: Wendy Cranford
These two cards were easy to make several of at a time. I'm finishing up the family and friends birthday cards for 2015 with my own handmade cards. People in the middle of the year had to make do with cards from the Dollar Store due to my cataract surgery. My vision is clearing up as each month goes by. It is nice just to have to have a pair of low power inexpensive reader glasses only for very close work.
Whoops, I guess I've said all I'm going to this evening, general living is nipping at my heals.

A Fall Card and A Beach Scene Card

Back with a second post this evening. This one I tagged Personal Challenges. While I love entering for real Challenges that wonderful people work so hard to create and maintain I also am trying to create some cards and art for family and friends again. I've been back to lurking on some of my old favorite blogs and have found some new ones to me to lurk on also. I am finding that I'm not the only art supply junkie on this small blue planet. LOL!
I've been being inspired by a lot of watercoloring techniques lately. Hence, this first card I pulled out my Stampin' Up watercolor crayons, a spray bottle of water, Gently Falling stamp set, which is a two step stamp set, perfect for this technique, oh yes, and watercolor paper. I fussy cut the leaves after I stamped and let them dry completely. The little wooden acorn is from a Stampin' Up embellishment pack. I colored it by laying it face down on a couple of ink pads, easy peasy. After arranging the leaves on a pumpkin pie card base stamped with Gorgeous Grunge stamp set and Versamark ink I added a  green Window Frames Framlit to set off the leaf arrangement, tied a yellow twine bow on the acorn and attached it with a dab of glue. It still needed something so with the Cajun Craze marker I drew a fine line around the edges with the ruler.

Next up is a card I made for my sister. One of her friends from her previous working life was retiring this week. I did some sponging and blending with Stampin' Up inks, Lost Lagoon, Pool Party, Soft Sky, and Crisp Cantaloupe. Stampin' Up inks react great with water droplets.  I pulled out some stamps that I got from GinaK about 3 years ago I think, and the piece of net with the little puffy bumps all over it which reminded me of a rocky, sandy beach that I've had for I don't know how long. It started out a 12" X 12" piece, but now I'm down to about an 8" X 8" piece. It seems to be begging for a beach themed mixed media canvas, ahh, but that's for another time.
It turned out my sister loved the card and when she got to her friends party, it was a beach themed party, who knew, I just wanted something different than a run of the mill retirement card.
That's it for this evening. Hope you all are getting some studio time with your beloved stash like I have this week.

The Card Concept #38--Color Challenge

I'm coming in at almost the deadline for this challenge I think there are only a couple of days left. Here is the inspiration picture and the colors, a clickable link is under this picture. The picture of my entry is below:

I'm going for the Shabby Chic Concept with this card.
I love daisies, in hind sight I think I needed one more on here, it's that rule of three thing, but moving on. I wanted to get some of the light blue on my card to contrast with the leaves. Stampin' Up Hardwood background stamp with Versamark ink, Soft Sky ink, and clear embossing powder did the trick. I also sponged a little Daffodil Delight ink over the embossed piece to tone it down just a bit. I used all Stampin' Up products on this card.
I checked at The Card Concept, you have until Monday to enter if you are not to busy catching a good fireworks show and grilling out.
Happy and Safe July 4th America--
